My baby pit bull died this morning.....she was only 11 months old.?

Should I get my other dog another companion? He is soooo sad any is howling but it sounds more like crying. It tears me up to see him like that.

Everybody will give you different answers on this not saying to get another dog its to soon, but I have found out the best medicine is to get another dog asap.

I had to put my dog asleep two weeks ago today he was 8 yrs old with arithritis in the spine and lost control of his back legs. I refused to bring him home and have him doped on moraphine he was in to much pain .

I was looking on the internet at our humane society page just looking at dogs cause I was so sad and a little border collie/ lab got my attention I went the ver next day and got him .

Just because somebody gets another dog 24 hrs after your pet dies or a week later does not mean you dont have feelings for your pet. I loved my dog very much and my new puppy will never replace my dog I lost but it gives me somebody else to love and for another pet to love me back. There is nothing like waking up in the morning and your fur friend giving you kisses or wagging his tail cause he has happy to see you.

I have grown up with pets my whole life and when I walked in the house without my dog that Friday I was so lost and it was depressing . I cried all day and all night because it was such a sudden loss to me I wasnt prepared to walk out the vets office without my dog and I was in shock.

Pluto my new puppy has brought me much joy and happiness again in our family. I still think of my dog Jumper but he is in a better place now pain free.

If you want to get another puppy you go for it there is nothign wrong with that and dont let people make you feel bad about getting another dog so soon.

Personally, I would first assess what the pup died of, if it was Parvo, or worms, or something else.

If it was parvo, then you need to clean everything with clorox, and not allow a new pup to go on the ground until it has had all it's shots, and get your dog his shots too.

If it was worms, then you need to worm your current dog, and then when getting a pup, make sure that it is wormed as well.

These are both good steps to take no matter how the pup died. Also, take into account the neighborhood you live in. What else could have caused such a sudden death? Did people in your area hate pit bulls? Could she have been poisoned? Sad to think about, but unfortunalty very possible.

I think that getting a new puppy may help your other dog feel better, and not so alone. If the dog was really attached to the pup, you may want to consider getting a puppy that is similar to the one that just passed.

I wish you the best :)

Sounds like your pit bull puppy was from a puppy mill unless the death was accidental.

Wait a few days. If you still want another dog, get it from the shelter and not a pet store. If you pick a mutt about 10 months old, you won't have to potty train it and you can be fairly certain it isn't going to die on you. The last thing you want is to get an in-bred puppy that has to be put down and cause your dog more grief.

If you must have a purebred, get it from a breeder that has no more than six adult dogs.

THIS MORNING!!! OMG OMG OMG I AM ABOUT TO CRY RIGHT NOW!!!! HOW CAN U ASK SO SOON AFTER THE DEATH OF A BABY!!!!! SORRY this isnt your fault..or I should hope not, I am just SOOO sad for you! Seriously I am crying...anyway wait a while b4 getting another...find out why the baby died then think about if you should have another one. But I have found that dogs like companions so if theres no complications eventually after some mourning time get another.

Oh my god, I'm so so so sorry for your loss! I know if I lost my little Pit, I would just die. As far as getting another dog, maybe you should wait a little bit, I'm sure your dog will adjust to being alone, after a while, but if after maybe a month, he's still very lonely, then you should maybe get another one. Good Luck, and I'm sorry again. Feel Better!

You should wait at least a month before getting another pet. It'll give you time to think about whether its a good idea and give the dog time to mourn-and they do mourn, sometimes for six months. Take you time, look around, find one thats right for the both of you.

If you get another dog too soon the original won't accept it as readily.

oh no! i'm very sorry to hear about your dog!! i just lost my dog a few months ago, and i'm still beaten up about it, and he was an older dog, but yours was just a puppy!

give it some time. your puppy just died today, for crying out loud! give your dog some time to mourn, and give yourself some time to mourn - it's ok to be sad for the loss of a pet! wait a few months, and then see how you and your other dog feel.

what happened to your pit bull? I am very sorry but don't get another dog if you can't handle it , and if get it from the shelter , your dog would be much more happy, and the new will love you more.

ok...this is for you and also the other one who lost theirs to parvo...

I was told and truly believe that when you have a pup die from parvo that the virus is in the house or the yard still after the death. you should seriously consider asking the vet about this and what can be done to fix it if it is true. If you get another pup, it will also be infected and most likely die. we had one pup died from parvo...got another 3 mths later..same thing happened...another 6 mths or so tried again...pup died again!...this is when someone told me about how the virus stays around and continues to infect. check this out please if you decide to get another.

Source(s): sorry to hear about your pup.

I am very sorry for your loss. Most dogs will understand what has happened and move on; some will not. I would give your other dog a couple days and see how he reacts.
