Swollen hands and numbness?

How common is this? The doc didn't seem too worried about it, but my girl is a bit uncomfortable at times. How long does this last, she's 7 mos and week or two right now.

Was there anything you did that helped? She says it gets hard to hold stuff too. Doc suggested a hand braces to wear at night that holds hands at a 90 degree angle at night. What do you think?

I would make sure that her blood pressure is ok, also when you are swollen like that it really does make it hard to hold things and also there are pins and needle feelings. I would tell her to drink alot of water, stay away from alot of salty items and try exercising her hand on a tennis ball just lay the hand on top of the ball and go forward and then back. Good Luck and Congrats!

i had the same condition. Have her watch her salt intake and drink lots of water , also put braces on at night, they are uncomfortable, but then so is swelling. Sometimes it lasts the whole pregnancy, try and keep from sleeping on them and try and prop them up at night.

tell her to watch them if they seem too swollen then call the doc, cause that is a sign of gestational diabetes. I had it with my third child, it sucked. and was very uncomfortable.

good luck,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,hope she finds some comfort.

Swollen hands & feet are common during pregnancy. I don't know about the hands because mine never got severly swollen. But I kept my feet elevated when I finished doing things I needed to & that helped with the swelling. Try to get shoes or slippers that are a size bigger. That makes room for when they start to swell so they won't ache so much. Massaging the feet does good to. You can help her out with that or let her go to a spa for a pregnancy massage (if they have one).

Carple Tunnel Syndrome is common in pregnancy. The braces may work. She should drink lots of water, that may help with the swelling, but it will only go away once she has the baby.
