Why is the American school curriculum so behind compared to say, Europe's?

I've noticed that many of our advanced college courses (Anatomy, Chemistry), Europeans already took in highschool. Also, many are trilingual. It seems like we're so behind.

There are so many answers to this, it's difficult to begin! Thusly, here is my rattly list: preoccupied parents, too many administrators filling the curriculum with fluff, low expectations, refusal to raise the bar and demand competancy before graduation, education vs culture (ever notice how other minorities truly succeed and some do nothing but cuss and blame??), far, far too much emphasis on SPORTS. How many teams does one school need?! Plenty of time and $$ for 7 soccer teams, yet as a freshman there weren't enough history books for half of my child's grad level. If you missed a day, there was no way to make up the work!

a million. financial rules, financial transformations that circumvent maximum families from having an entire time (or perhaps section time) homemaker, with the appropriate effect that almost all adults are working longer hours (artwork for money + self and domicile care) and have much less time to have interplay with their babies. 2. funds pushed coverage (thinly veiled with Sociology) of "mainstreaming" scholars with particular needs. whilst each and every 30 pupil classification room has 5-6 "particular needs" scholars -- a million habit problem, a million bodily handicapped, a million on psych meds, and a pair of-3 very sluggish inexperienced persons -- then the different 25 "prevalent" scholars get much less education. of course, whilst mainstreaming is in place instructors not have the appropriate to exclude disruptive scholars from the lecture room. 3. Social merchandising, the thought scholars ought to circulate alongside with their age team to the third grade whether they have not mastered 2d grade textile. back, this is funds pushed coverage thinly veiled with Sociology. 4. commencement fee pushed investment. This began in the Nineteen Seventies and the predictable effect of decrease standards quickly observed. in the Sixties an HS degree replaced right into a gaurantee that the bearer had the experienced necessary to accomplish an get right of entry to point job, not purely teachers yet skills like promptness, dressing properly, self assessment and self correction, benefitting from effective grievance, getting on properly with friends and superiors, etc. on the instant's HS degree isn't even a gaurantee of literacy and numeracy. Why might taxpayers and community be obsessed with helping a level mill?

The European education model (if one can speak of such a thing) becomes career oriented previous to college. Whether or not this is advantageous can be debated. It is not that we are educationally behind when you take in the whole educational process.

Take a map of europe and lay it over a map of the USA - it should become apparent why multilingualism is more prevalent there than here. Although when it comes to money they are now quite monolingual.

I guess we have our government to thank for....

I'm in high school and a about a week ago exchange students from Germany came to my school and I spoke to one of them and she told me they start learning English in the elementary schools...along with other languages.

They also don't have middle and high schools instead they get tested and go to a gymnasium, halpschule or rehalschule. All depends on how they do on tests. The gymnasium is a speciality school for the "smarter" kids and the other two schools are trade schools. Germany's Colleges and Universities are also free so more people get a better education no matter the financial status...which isn't the case in America.

    Hope I helped a little.

We have our wonderful govt to thank for that.It seems the schools are more interested in teaching tolerance for homosexuals, political correctness and uncontrolable children as we a not allowed to discipline children with out getting slapped in jail for child abuse. We are falling behind academically and its a shame..,I pulled my children out of public shool and taught them at home and they are better for it.No social problems as people like to say about home taught children.
