Ideas to improve Yahoo Answers point system?

For example, I think you should be able to vote for promotion of a question to a "Great Question", which gets special treatment (the ASKER gets points, and all good answers get points. Best answer gets 50 points. Asker can delete dumb answers).

Also, voting on random answers to gain points should give a penalty. More points for voting for an answer when there are 20 different ones to pick from than when there are two.

Or how about points for having lots of thumbs up on your answers (even if it's not the best answer).

Best idea gets the 10

Sounds good, a good question should receive points, and also violation penalty's should be given if 2 or more complaints are made.

It would be nice to have the points back for giving thumbs up and also, I think we should get more points when a best answer is chosen by the asker, and the asker should get more points by chosing best answer - it might make make so many old questions up for vote.

This time I am not trying for the ten. I only know that the voter turn-out is very spotty - sometimes not there at all. Voting has become a very subjective and meaningless thing except in some categories and at some times. I tried to pick up ten points by voting the other night and it took me over a half an hour to do it right - all for ten points !

The only way to make this site truly useful (as opposed to entertaining in a "let's watch a train wreck" kind of way) is to have moderators review all questions and answers before they are asked. The moderators would not judge the content (except to make sure that the questions match the category, and the answers have some semblance of sense to them).

Since Yahoo can't afford to do this without dramatically increasing their advertising rates, don't hold your breath.

I honestly expect that once Yahoo realizes that this site's primary audience is children under 12, they'll shut it down because it can't be making any money for them.

Good ideas. I think the asker should be able to give points to more than one good answer, 10 points to best and 5 points to second best, and so on.

Sounds good to me. I initially concept this develop right into a great concept, and that i've got tried asking questions i certainly wanted people's comments on - with quite little reaction - and concluded that someway the standards systems wasn't helpful the superb movements. Your techniques ought to actual help. yet i could additionally desire to work out some adjustments that ascertain "useful" questions are asked - no longer "what's your fashionable shade?" - except of direction they're doing a learn and additionally asking call, age, area and so on.

    Good ideas.

However, since they do nothing about point gaming, porn avatars, or profanity, I doubt they'll go for it.
