I always use peroxide... It kills germs and it is safe so u wouldn't have to worry about any chemical odor remaining in ur refridgerator.

I would try 2 things. A weak solution of bleach in water will kill any mold or mildew that is making the smell. Let the solution get into corners and seams in the plastic walls. Don't make the solution too strong or you won't be able to put your head in the fridge without a gas mask.
Also make a slurry of baking soda in water and scrub the walls and shelves of the fridge with this. It will remove smelly films you can't even see and also help neutralize some smells. Wipe down with wet cloth and dry. Do not mix the baking soda with the bleach.
I would not bother trying ammonia or vinegar.
Make sure the fridge and freezer are getting cold enough so food does not spoil fast. The fridge should be below 40 degrees F. The freezer anywhere below 32 degrees.

Depends how much time you have. If you have to get the food in there right away just use dish soap (I like dawn) and hot water. To get the smell out or if there are any nasty messes make a paste with baking powder and scrub it off. The Baking powder will help with the smell and will be safe for the food.

Hot water, soap and some bleach.
Rinse with vinegar, straight.
If this is an older fridge - the smell
might not go away - the insulation
will have absorbed the odor and there
is nothing you can - except buy a
new one.

Scrub with baking soda and then leave a open box inside to absorb any lingering odors.

Warm water with baking soda and some vinegar and elbow grease. This should help emulsify the goop and the soda and vinegars should help with the stink. Plus it won't make you sick cause its environmentally friendly.

baking soda will clean everything in your kitchen but the oven; elbow grease will take care of that
