About the Romans and Etruscans?
I know for the most part the story of Romulus and Remus, but I was asked recently to connect the numerous Etruscan paintings of birds with this legend. (There are paintings of the "boys" with many birds around them)
Can anyone help me?

The history of the Roman state begins with the Kingdom period (followed by the Republican and Emperors' period). During that period, there were 7 kings, the first of whom was Romulus, who killed his own brother, Remus, and thus became king of Rome when it became a city populated by other people (besides Romulus & Remus). The last # of seven kings were Etruscans, who conquered Rome. And the revolution which turned Rome into a republic was also a rebellion agains the Etruscans.

Livy and Plutarch have depicted Romulus and Remus under a fig tree with two birds, but I'm not sure how that has anything to do with the Etruscans.

The story of Etruscan rule of Rome has been questioned recently. There is very little evidence for it, and. the small number of Etruscan words in Latin is evidence against it.
