Teachers carrying guns in school?
I know this question has been proposed before but I'm from Missouri and our governor has now suggested that teachers in Missouri might be permitted to carry guns. Rural Missouri is a strong gun-advocate area and it scares me to think we might start arming our teachers. I can't see how it can help but I think this is a real possiblity and I find it frightening. I wonder if the focus and attention to the details has contributed to the increase in these incidents. Not that it shouldn't be reported - it's the details that I think are more impacting on potential copy-cats.
Somehow this question got posted twice. Sorry for that. I'm keeping them on bc I've received answers on both.

Guns never belong in a class room! There is more of a chance of an accident or losing control of the weapon than there is of it saving lives overall. Maybe schools should be locked down with closed campuses during school hours. Maybe there should be universal school uniform that make it difficult to hid a weapon and I am sure there are hundreds of better ideas, but carrying guns in school is not one of them.

Just what we need stressed out teachers going on shooting sprees. I might be amenable if the teachers have military training in there past or at least go through a serious training course which tests you in stressful situations. I wouldn't trust a teacher who just took a safety course that won't cut it. Then I wonder what kind of weapon will the teacher bring an M-16 an auto pistol of some kind. will the teachers kill as many as the assailant in the crossfire or worse will the assailant simply know who is packing and take them out 1st? Where will the teacher keep the weapon? Are we simply providing a gun to an assailant who might just take the gun from a teacher and start shooting?

Speak softly and carry a big stick!!!
In this case the "stick" is a gun. But I think the thought of a teacher having a gun should scare off those who would want to do harm at the school.
Maybe a taser would be better then a gun. Or a gun with rubber bullets or the beanbag guns.

I think I understand the practicality and fear that lead to this proposal. I would, however, oppose it. Teachers already have enough things to worry about without becoming bodyguards. If the school is so worried about these incidents, it should invest in a proper safety program, including metal detectors and police.

Its not a good idea. After all, they're only teachers, not cops (unless they happen to be both). Guns are supposed to be illegal in schools and who's to say how a teacher might handle his gun or even go off the deep end and use it with or without provocation? Bad idea!

A teacher is supposed to teach civilization to his students. To foster intellect and to show that books and brains are better than guns to solve your problems. Arm the teachers and you will arm all his students, and the Lord alone knows what is coming next!

I think it would create an atmosphere of the teachers against the students. It would be better for law enforcement officers to be in the school since they are trained in proper safety protocols.

TEACHER'S???? What are they going to do? Shoot disobedient students? How may teachers would have had the opportunity to unload on a school killer? How does being a teacher make you trained in armed combat??
I understand the sentiment, but is it really wise???

that would be a great way to give easy access to a gun for all the students , maybe just put vending machines with guns in them

They should arm all teachers and government employees and especially politicians because they will need all the fire power they can muster in the very near future!
