Time Zone brain teaser!?

Two people in the US are talking on the phone. One person is in a state on the Atlantic Ocean, and the other is in a state on the Pacific Ocean. One happens to mention the time where they live, and the other replies, "that's funny, it's the exact same time here!" Both of their clocks are correct. How can this be?

They probably live near the gulf of Mexico where their time zone would be the same.
