anyone found a cure for fear of flying?
I've got 2 'CURE' books to read & I am considering hypnotherapy. Have also queried about courses to help at local airport. Anyone found a fast fix to get their head round the fear?

1. Check out this website: http://www.fearofflying.com/
2. You have to confront your fear; understand it. I found out I was supposedly terrified about going through plane trips because I didn't trust in the plane, like in myself, I was afraid of being in the open, so high, just like I was afraid of being in overwhelmingly big and open situations, I was afraid to take off-- to grow up, in other words, actually-- and last, because it was taking off for a whole new place each time. I had to fly, to soar, to somewhere new. I know it seems unbelievable, but you could have as many a number of factors as I do to be afraid of flying. Also, I had had a bad start with planes from a young age, so check if you've had any bad aerial experiences.
3. I found out it was best to just "do it". I had no choice once, I had to go somewhere by plane, and the best I could do was have a good cry, get some relaxing pills from the pharmacy, get a grip, look out the window as the magnificient plane I was on soared and that's that. I had perfectly smooth trip and I was at least 85-90% cured from my previous state! Don't even feel embarrassed to hum in the plane, chat with someone, get busy, sleep, etc. Don't sit there gripping the arm rest (that doesn't help anyway)... learn to ACT, not REACT!
Now, all I can wish you is for my words to have aided you in the process of healing yourself, for me to send my best of luck, be strong and go for it! Fly high. ; )

Distraction, by reading a good book before take off, thinking of the plans of the day after reaching the destination, reading through the aircraft tv program guide for the movies that would start after take off on the plan, looking forwards to the trip...unfortunatly, thinking about plane food is not encouraging.
Maybe, writing down the name of all the reletives and friends of the person who travel by plane and reading it on take off may remind him that all these people survived take off s and, that he could too.
Some people think sleeping pills help.
Reflecting after the experience and writing down that the person actualy arrived safely may help make the person accept trying to go on another flight in the future.

YES, stop watching air crash investigation programmes like I do. I never used to fear flying before. Seriously, its unbelievable but flying really is quite safe, birds do it all the time and i imagine that similar concepts are used.

Personally, I've found two double gin and tonics before checking in works. They send you to sleep. Disadvantage is that you wake up with a hangover.
Alternatively, ask your doc for a prescription for Amitriplyne tablets.
