Does anybody know about this immigration business?

The number of illegal immigrants in ALL of California (not just southern -- I couldn't find any estimates that broke out just southern calif.) in 2005 was estimated to be 1.5 million by the state, and 2.2 million by a consensus of several anti-immigration groups -- which means the real number is probably somewhere between those two, 1.8-2.0 million. Since southern california has about 65% of the state's population, extrapolating (not necessarily accurate) would yield an estimate of between 900,000 and 1.3 million illegal immigrants in southern california.

Statewide, the number of illegal immigrants is somewhere between 5 and 10 percent of the state's total population. That's somewhat higher than the national estimate of 3% of the country's population being illegal immigrants.

Note to Dar: California has around 36 million people TOTAL -- it'd be kind of hard to have 4 BILLION illegals in that total :) Especially since there's only 300 million in the whole country!

I've seen Ca's numbers, I want to say 4 billion [million not billion], and 2/3 of every births in LA County hospitals being to illegal immigrants, but I didn't see those sources, looking quickly... I can find the second one, but meanwhile here is this:

I work for the border patrol in the surveillance camera room and every night I would watch about a 100 to 150 people from inside Mexico climb the fence and make a run for Arizona and California. Many, many make it.

Or we ought to enforce present rules, punish employers who hire unlawful immigrants and decrease than-the-table workers as a replace of reducing the uncomplicated denominator and ******* the yank worker over worse.
