my laptop's power indicator is always on even after disconnecting from main and goes off only if batt is dead.

either of two situations

1. you are misreading battery indication & mains indication

2. mis-wiring in u'r notebook, battery indication & mains indication

chances of 1. are higher,

Mine does that too. Its a green light if its plugged in and turns yellow if its on battery backup. it will only shut off if your on battery backup and shut the computer down, or you are completely out of power in which case you would be on battery backup and the computer would be shut down anyways.

Nothings wrong with it, it's just how it was made, I know it's kinda annoying, I thought so too as I didn't want stupid lights all over the place, but you will get used to it.... eventually.

That light is just letting you know that there is still power in the battery.
