Can anyone tell me why my panda catfish died?

I already have a well established community tank with gregarious fish in it.2x Upsidedown catfish 1x Bronze Corydoras 3 Neon Tetras and 1 Plec. The Panda Catfish where a girt from my father who also bought himself some, they where about a year old when purchased and from a reputable seller, however my fathers died within a week of purchase and mine died after about a month, the fish are not over fed, kept out of direct sunlight, no problems with ph etc.

10 points to the person who can give me some advise on why and how it can be avoided in the future.

Update:

Thanks for the quick response Skyler,

Theres no algae in the tank, the plec takes care of that. I also forgot to add that the fish are quarantined before purchase.

Well, for cories to be happy they need water that is soft

    gh 6 - 8

    pH 6.4 - 7.6

    temp 72 (far) 22(cel)

gravel that does not have sharp edges.

you should also keep them in groups of 4 or more as they are schooling fish.

feed them sinking tablets and granules.

Was your filter in tip-top condition and did you clean the media with water taken from the tank, NOT direct from a tap? Chemicals in tap water will kill the good bacteria essential to maintain a healthy filter and without it the bad bacteria can quickly kill even the healthiest fish. Also, mixing coldwater and tropical fish (not that I'm saying you have done that) can introduce disease and bacteria that different species aren't immune to. Is any of this any help?

sounds like it could have been the wrong combo of fish. some fish's systems are not compatable enough to just be with other kinds.
