What are some good educational and fun toys for a 7 month old boy?

At 7 months old, you're hitting prime teething time, so it's a safe bet a lot of his toys are going to end up in his mouth. I did a lot of organic cloth and wooden toys at that point -- developmentally appropriate, fun and cute, and safe to chew on. I avoided plastics because a lot of them leach pthalates, which can cause health problems over time. Ditto anything with batteries -- by 7 months my daughter was pretty good at getting things open and the last thing I wanted was her chewing on a battery! Also, battery-driven toys and videos tend to encourage passive play instead of active imagination, so they aren't very educational.

Haba, Melissa & Doug, Kaloo, and Under the Nile all make wonderful toys.

Simple toys. Fisher Price Peek-a-boo blocks are wonderful. They are simple, yet a great way for infants and toddlers to see and learn about things.

Activity gyms are great as well. They have alot of neat things on them but also allow the infant to kick and stretch.

Mirrors are fun for them at that age too. All babies love looking at themselves in the mirror.

Don't go all out and spend tons of money on complicated toys that are marked "educational"--because at 7 months, anything is educational. Towering blocks and playing with a simple push-toy is much better for an infant at that age than something with buttons and lights that makes noise.

I like the Leap Frog toys and Baby Einstein cartoon series. The Peek-a-Boo blocks are good and will be enjoyed for awhile. (I know a couple of 3 yr olds that still like them.) Toys-R-Us has toys sectioned of by age group on their website and the mags they send in the mail.

I got the Leapfrog Learning Drum for my son last Christmas- He has loved it since.

The Leapfrog Learning Table is also very versatile, he loves it, too.

If your child is sitting, designate a cupboard in the kitchen (low of course) full of tupperware, measuring cups, plastic mixing spoons, etc....that is "his" cupboard. My son will sit for ever while I make dinner and play in "his cupboard".

Paper towel tubes are great, too- Sing into it, then hold it to his mouth so he can do it, too.

Empty egg cartons

Blocks of all sizes and textures- Peek-a-Blocks are really cool, they introduce sound, cause and effect, texture, color-

Leap Frog Learn around playground. It is pricey but my son loves it. He has loved it since he was 6 months old.

try the leap frog learning table we have one and they love it. it goes from learning to music and is really cute. any thing leap frog would be a good choice. i swear i should have stock in that company as much as i buy there products. but it works my three year old can read and my almost two yearold can count and knows his abc, go figrue. great toys.

toys with shapes sounds and color are good any leap pad toys are great
