Most babies can sit up by 9mths but that doesnt mean you should worry about it. Ask at your next Dr appt, but I'm sure it is nothing. Some babies are a little more 'lazy' then others (just for lack of a better word).

My twin brother was walking at 9 mths and I took until 14mths so even twins can have big differences in meeting milestones. I'm sure you do the same thing with the two of them, so obviously this is your boy deciding when he is good and ready!!

PS I am really tired of parents doing the 'MY baby started sitting up at 3 mths, and MY baby starting walking at 7mths, blah blah blah. This women is concerned about her baby meeting a milestone later than this mythical 'avg' baby and you choose to brag about your child??

Like most have said, all babies are different and reach milestones at different times. My baby girl started sitting without support towards the end of her 6th month, closer to 7 months. I don't think I did anything special to get her to sit, it was what she wanted to do.

So don't beat yourself up because your son isn't sitting yet. He will! He just likes to take his time. Babies are amazing creatures and extremely smart! Even though your baby is not sitting yet, I'm sure he'll excel in another area. Has he started crawling? Or maybe he's already babbling lots!

I bet he will surprise you one day and just sit up like that! Be sure to get your camera ready!

Babies usually start sitting up anywhere from 5-9 months, but each baby is different! I wouldn't worry right now if you're son doesn't sit on his own. Chances are he could any time now, or he may reach another milestone first.

If you're worried, take him to your pediatrician for a check-up, but I'm sure he's fine.

5 months to a year. My son sat up unassisted at 6 months. Every baby is different. Don't worry about it. He will sit up when he is ready.

I'd always heard about 6 or 7 months .. but I wouldn't panic. Give the baby a little more time. Good Luck ! :)

Infants should try sitting up on their own at about 5-6 months. He should be holding his head up while on his belly and phushing up with his arms straight. Note that he will not be able to to it for long periods at the time, but should attempt. Try doing simple spine excersises with him. Lay him down on his back and make him take your forefinger in his hand. Gently pull up on his arms and allow him to pull up on his own. If he does not try to support his own head, lay him back down and try it again. Babies need a certain amount of "floor time" (lay baby on his tummy on a clean blanket on the floor in a open area) usually about 15-20 mins at least 3 times a day, so they can strengthen and develope those muscles needed to accomplish basic actions. I.e. Holding thier head up on their own, sitting up on thier own, rolling back to belly, belly to back. etc. Put toys in front of him. some that he can reach and some just out of his reach to encourage him to hold his head up. Putting ones just out of his reach will encourage him to begin to crawl or scoot to get what he wants. Do these excersises for a week or so several times everyday, if there is no improvement, contact your doctor.

Anywhere from 6 mos to one year.

Oh, they are so cute when they can sit. You can get those boppy cushions for them to prop themselves up with. My boys used to love sitting there in their boppy all proud because they're sitting up.
