I Had one (2006) for about a month and sold it.

It is an excellent car with excellent cargo room The second and third row of seats fold flat ant the front passenger seat folds down so you can haul objects 9 and 1/2 feet in length.

Even though the CVT transmission was slugish at takeoff it did shift smoothly n maintained a constant RPM at all speads.

I got 25 MPG in the city and 32MPG on the open road.

1.The CVT transmission was slow to respond to the gas pedal and was sluggish when taking off, Ford is now putting a regulalr automatic in newer Freestyles and 500's due to problems with the CVT.

2.During a hard rain water would leak in the passenger side door and fill the headliner until it leaks onto the seats through the sunvisior bracket, Ford has recalled the 500 and freestyles as the water could freeze on the door latch and cause the door to open by itself.

If you buy one make sure that the leaking door problem is fixed and check the headliner for mildew and insist that it be replaced and also go for a newer one with a triied and true transmission(Not the CVT which is a good transmission for a much lighter car)

Source(s): I owned a 2006 Freestyle and sold it after driveing it for less than a month.

They are common for wearing out rear brake pads prematurely, although I think Ford is aware of this issue. And, therefore are working on releasing a set of updated linings to correct this concern. Other than that, there haven't been any problems with these vehicles so far.

Ive heard nothing but good about these vehicles. I used to drive them for a living and really its a good vehicle. Seats are comfy and its roomy . The engine seems to be reliable since they have never had a recalls that I know of. They dont have gobbs of power but its not a sports car so its not that big of a deal. Good car for its price tag

these are NOT problems i hear on a regular basis. but i have heard them, usually only once.

    *rear brakes wearing out prematurely

    *tires wearing out prematurely

*dont like how the transmission doesnt shift. dont like the seamless acceleration

also look for problems or post in the volvo category. it is after all a volvo cross country wagon.
