Depending on how new the carpet is theres a chance there is enough protecter still there to help get one of the most difficult stains out such as mustard. Unfortunately mustard has a dye that is extremely difficult to remove. Try peroxide and water 50/50 by appliying with a trigger sprayer on mist just enough to dampen the area. If yellow stain seems to be lightning after it has set for 12 hours, then repeat process over. If this does not work, and your carpet is not white then try to match your color of carpet with a permenent marker of same or close to same color marker, this will at least hide the stain from jumping out at you.

What color is the carpet? Does the yellow of the mustard stand out like it was on a white carpet, or does the carpet have a Berber pattern , or is it a multicolored design? In any case, on an area where it is not noticeable try this. Lighter fluid from a zippo type lighter is a chemical equivalent to Naphtali (I don't know how to spell that one). Squirt some fluid on a trash-able cloth and rub it in a corner to test. Do not soak the carpet and do not put fluid directly on the carpet. After about an hour check for staining. It should not be yellowing or anything, I have cleaned silk ties and other fabrics this way, white silk is the worst since it may yellow a bit. Anyway, if the test area looks good then clean the mustard stain. Afterwords, sprinkle baking soda and vacuum. There should not be any smell or other problems.

I'm afraid you are stuck with it. I've spilled mustard on shirts, pants, and seen my kids do the same...and I've tried everything to get it out with no luck.

I believe I've read somewhere that a mustard stain is permanent.

However that was years ago...maybe a rug service will have some special solution that will work.

    Good luck!
