Gov't job interview, no answer, how long?

I applied for a city government job. I went through the 1st interview and passed. I went through the 2nd interview and I did very well. However, it's been more than two weeks since the interview and I never got a call or letter whether I got the job or not. Is the wait long? Should I call and ask if the job has been taken? Does any government worker have experience with this process?

Applying for Government jobs is usually a long process. The first few interviews, may sometimes go rather quickly, and then the latter is later....SOMETIMES WAY LATER! I have been working for the gov't a long time, and at one point I worked the Human Resources Dept. In some cases we hired right away, and on other occasions we took as long as six months!

normally I would wait 2 weeks after the 1st interview and 1 week after the 2nd interview... anything more than that I will just forget about the job.....

I worked for the U.S. Marines and I was reading to your comment and you need to call them and check what´s going on, simple as that.
