    You just answered your own question. Because there was prejudice towards them in their homeland. That's a good reason to pack up and leave for the U.S.

    I live in New York City, where there are many Jewish people from Russia. I have not noticed any prejudice against them. The Russians I have met, seem very nice, intelligent and hard working.
