A firm tap on the head and "you're saved?"?

I just read an article in Saturday's LA TIMES about several super-Evanglical Christian sects in northern California which are comprised of Russian and Ukrainian immigrants.

In the article it mentioned that some of their followers have the annoying habit of approaching people in public places, giving them a few firm taps on the head and proclaiming "You're Saved."

Any opinions on this?

(P.S. I am Christian and I find this nauseating, unnecessary and unconscienable.)

It won't do a thing. Salvation is individual and conscious choice.

It sounds awful. This presumes that the people doing the tapping have the power to save, which they don't. Salvation requires knowing who God is, knowing that mercy is offered through his Son, repenting for your sins, and inviting the Holy Spirit into your soul. That is, those who are saved must want to be saved.

What these people are doing sounds like superstition and self-will. Almost like they're trying to cast a spell over other people's lives or something.

Whatever their motives, it won't work. Because salvation involves the choice to accept it, and there is no way this can be faked...or induced through any human means.

Wish it could be that Simple.

    FreeWill.

You gotta Want GOD, you gotta Want to get out of what you got Into (Sin) so on.

Those Guys have got Into Religion, in the Area of Salvation.

You can Claim somebody Elses Salvation, then after that, It is between GOD and that Person.

p.s. If you Feel the Power of an Awsome GOD the Guy GOD is Using to Minister won't have to Ask You if you FEEL the Power.

    And the T.V. thing Works.

Putting your hand on the T.V. opens up the Channel for GOD to Heal YOU.

You coulda got HEALED all by yourself by Recieving the Power yourself.

Putting your Hands on the T.V. helps YOU (a Point of Contact to help YOU overcome Doubt and Unbelief).

Salvation requires repentance, water baptism in Jesus' Name, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. Anyone who preaches anything differenct is a false prophet.

CAN YOU FEEEELLLLL THE POWER? No I do not understand how smiting someone on their head has anything to do with their eternal salvation. I have a problem with people on TV who ask you to put your hands on the TV so they can heal you. I do not believe in that either.

I'd file charges or something--saving people against their will should be considered "spiritual assault"--actually I'd probably just hit them, why waste time?

literal bible thumpers. Being christian, you know it means nothing but misleading thoughts and teaching, unless it's their kid and he's whistling in the middle of a sermon

Source(s): You know, I had a similar experience in the 80's. A man came up to a friend and I and asked if he could pray for us. We were just hanging outside a liqour store trying to score some beer. He put his hands on our heads and said something. I remember, and so does my friend, that it felt like we got electrocuted. I think we spouted God this and that for a week or so. Then got into drugs, metal and speed. Funny, but that same friend became a christian 4 years later, and I did another year after him, even though we were not friends for years after the incident.

If you join them, you'll be saved FROM heaven.
