Has anyone ever had an abnormal pap & colposcopy?
Just got a call from the nurse & she said I had to come in for a colposcopy because my pap smear was abnormal This scares me because I've never had an abnormal pap! Anyone out there had one? My mom said she had one when I was a little girl but then she said afterwards everything was normal. I'm 26 yrs old & haven't had kids yet but want to soon. Hopefully this won't affect future pregnancies!!

I've had one and I know they are quite common. An abnormal pap can be from infection or inflammation. They are going to perform a test similar to a pap and they will snip a sample of tissue from the cervix. This was somewhat painful for me and the discomfort lasted all day but I was fine the next day. My results came back normal, just like everyone I've ever known to have one. Don't be nervous! Good luck!

It is a very simple procedure, similar to a PAP smear. They will use a mild chemical to make the abnormal cells (if there are any) appear, and take biopsies of those abnormal areas. If they think there may be abnormalities inside the cervical canal, they will take a few samples from there as well. All of the samples taken should give you very mild cramping (similar to period cramps) and will last only a short time, and you should be in and out in about 1/2 hour. You may have some spotting or light bleeding for a day or two afterward, but nothing more.
After the biopsies are assessed by a pathologist, you will be notified of the results and you will be given your treatment options.

I had one when I was 20 and had just what they are requesting you have. It went fine. I needed to have my cervix froze because I had mild dysplasia. They did it right then in the office. I had some mild cramping, a little bit of dizziness, and some mild nausea. It went well and everything was fine. They will probably request you have pap tests as often as every 3 months for the first year then every 6months for 2 years then back to a year. I have not had an abnormal one since and that was 18 years ago.
Don't panic about having kids. I went on later to have my son and there were not complications related to this experience. Hope it all goes well.

i truthfully purely had a colposcopy carried out a pair of weeks in the past. this might properly be an consumer-friendly technique. They positioned you in stirrups like they do for a pelvic examination/pap smear. They insert the speculum. Then they only take an prolonged cotton swab dipped in acetic acid (distilled vinegar) and then use a microscope to look interior on your cervix. in case you have strange cells they're going to look white below a microscope. even with the undeniable fact that, the biopsy does harm somewhat. i'm particulary gentle down there and that they actually snip off a bite or 2 of your cervix to biopsy it. this might reason cramping and bleeding, yet no longer something intense.

I have had abnormal paps for almost 3 years now and im 23. During my colposcopy the doctors would burn tissue mass off my cervic and uterus and test it to see if its cancerous which it isnt. the reason i have abnormal paps smear i was told is because i have leision on my uterus. and no its doesnt stop you from having kids.

I did about 10 years ago. I felt like crud the day after the colposcopy, but other than that....all my paps have been normal since then.

Yes, I had it when I too was in my mid 20's. So did several of my friends. It really is no big deal and is very common. Had 3 healthy babies after the colposcopy. I was told by my doctor it happens to women who have multiple partners. Which was my situation so I didn't tell too many people.

The same think happend to me. Basically you are going to go there and they are going to look at your cervix very closely. It could be nothing at all so dont worry till you go. I however had cervical dysplacia. So I have to continue to go in every three months to be checked. Good luck to you and please remember to always get pap smears they are so important!
