Painting old tubs, sinks & showers...?

There are kits of two-part epoxy paint that are sized to do a tub or shower. They look easy to apply but take about a week to dry. If you have access to another tub or shower during that time it is not a bad idea. I think they are about $20 but get cheaper when they are on sale. Don't use regular paint because it will peel and look shabby. Clean the tub or shower as per the paint directions to make sure the paint sticks.

Paint For Tubs

Do NOT paint over the porcelain coating that covers most old cast iron tubs or sinks. The paint will not adhere properly making it a worse mess than you have now.

The mustard colour is likely from water with a high iron content. Try a product called 'Iron Out!' something I put into my water conditioner to get the stains out. Then try what others here suggest as a Home Depot paint on product specially formulated for porcelain.

Has anyone here ever re-painted an old bath tub, shower or sink? How did it turn out? Any recommendations? I just bought a house and my master bathroom tub, shower & sinks are all a nasty mustard color.

yes it is a Little hard to get started ,but recommend going to lows or home depot they have a special type of paint there you can buy just tell them you want to paint your tub or sink .They'll give you a sponge brush and the paint can it is so easy just paint and let it dry don't worry about uneven coloring it will separate evenly wail it dries.

they sell a kit at the home stores it is a spacial kind of paint you have to mix two parts if you follow the directions exactly it'll turn out real nice for tubs sinks and toilets

ive seen houses that my company have worked on that have had painted bath tubs and sinks.. but the painting was new and never used.. i dont really know how it erally turned out.. but at the time it looked really good.. but working with Granite countertops, its not too much money for you to change your sink.. specially if it is a drop in one. but its always cool to try new things you know... good luck!!

at home depot in the the bath dept, there is a paint for the bath tub, I can't rember what it is called. The paint is white, and it cost $29.00. Good Luck

Yes, it can be repaired so that you will never see it. Good hardware or big box stores have the kits. If you dont want to tackle it, call a local plumbing supply outlet and ask for the name of the repair company they use. We run into this on jobsites, and they do a nice job.

It would be better if you replace everything just for the peace of mind. A remodeling can only increase your home value and it would be more hygienist.
