  • Cake as dumb as the Wal-Mart one – What would you say to bakery?

Cake decoration as bad as the one shown on the Wal-mart cake famous on YouTube is still happening.

I went to a family birthday party for a three year old relative. Her mother had ordered a fancy chocolate cake from “Bakery on the Common” in Natick Mass and asked for pink lettering. The clerk asked what color pink her daughter wanted. She said “Any would be OK since she likes all kinds of pink.” When she went to pick up the cake just before the party it said in pink lettering: “HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY ALL KINDS OF PINK.” The mother said the wording is wrong and the clerk said “No. it is not. We wrote down what you asked for.” The mother asked to speak to the manager and was told she would be back that afternoon. When she called and started to tell the manager what the problem was the manager said “Don’t bother to tell me. I already heard from my employees. You are wrong and if you didn’t like the cake you should not have bought it” and then hung up.

What would you have said if it was you? Obviously she will never go back there but there must be a way to respond to customer service that poor.

  • Any blonde jokes that can top this new one?

A blonde calls her boyfriend and says, 'Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle and I can't figure out how to get started.'

Her boyfriend asks, 'What is it supposed to be when it's finished?'

The blonde answers, 'According to the picture on the box, it's a rooster.'

Her boyfriend decides to go over and help with the puzzle.

She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table.

He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says, 'First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster.'

He takes her hand and says, 'Second, I want you to relax. Let's have a nice cup of tea.' Then .he says with a deep sigh, . . 'Let's put all the Corn Flakes back in the box.'

  • Did Yahoo!Answers change when its week ends?

I used to believe that all the point tallying and leaderboard stuff occurred at midnight Sunday. Then someone said that it was midnight Sunday at Sunnyvale CA time.

The last few weeks I happened to answer questions late at night and I noticed that my Yahoo weekly point total was really the one from about 10PM EST.

Does Yahoo now knock it off early so anyone who is using Yahoo late at night is wasting their effort for that week?

  • Will UFOs stay in headlines now with France's release of its x-files?

Now that France released its CNES files of UFO sightings, both hoax one and unexplained ones, will the UFO-coverup conspiracy become a top subject of discussion?

Of the UFO sightings 30% remain a complete mystery. Do you think many of those older stories (dating back to 1937) could have been debunked if investigators had paid attention to them when they first occurred and if today's scientific tools had been available?

Do you think that release will lead to data on sighting reports from other countries?

  • Are Slot Machines illegally trying to psych you out?

Did you see the article about the slot machines in Canada http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?com...

that try to psych gamblers into thinking they are on a winning streak. They said that the casinos do not check for those kind of tricks in the machines. Do you wonder if the machines you are playing have the same trick and do you think that the gambling commissions should be testing to be sure?

  • Skipping spell check on answers is like skipping tooth brushing before going out?

Your answers are really the face you present to the rest of us here on Yahoo. When you don't bother to make sure they are spelled correctly it is like saying you don't care how you look to the rest of us. The equivalent in real life is when you don't bother to brush your teeth, wash your face, or change from yesterday's stained shirt before you go out the door to see people. Those indicate you don't care enough about those you will see in person to meet minimum standards of appearance.

Do you agree that leaving sloppy spelling is the on-line equivalent of sloppy personal grooming? If people thought of it that way would they care more about how they look to others in Yahoo?

  • If you dropped dead tomorrow, how many people would show up at your funeral besides your family?

Without taking the edge off the season, here is something that I just wondered about.

If you died you can usually count on grieving relatives being there for the services and burial. Who else would be there for you and your family if you were the one in that casket? Would friends, coworkers, and neighbors be there too and in what number?

  • How many people in your neighborhood are you close friends with and how many do you just know by name?

    To be really specific:

How many do you consider friends you would invite to a party or give a key to so they can watch your house while you are on vacation or give as character references when you apply for a job? How many others are people you know just because they go to school with you or with your kids or shop in the same stores or meet at the mailboxes?

  • A new Man's Prayer - is it funny or offensive?

A man walked along a California beach deep in prayer. All of a sudden, he said out loud, "Lord, grant me one wish."

Suddenly the sky clouded and in a booming voice the Lord said, "Because you have TRIED to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish." The man said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so anyone can drive over anytime they want."

The Lord said, "Your request is very materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of another wish, a wish you think would honor and glorify Me."

The man thought about it for a long time. Finally he said, "Lord, I wish that I could understand women. I want to know how they feel, what they are thinking when they give me the silent treatment, why they cry, what they mean when they say 'nothing', and how I can make a woman truly happy."

The Lord replied, "Do you want lights on that bridge?"

  • Gain or Lose Points is a fix for Reporting Problems?

There are two problems with reporting Yahoo offenders – askers complaining that their reported-questions are valid and answerers reporting valid questions as invalid. I think there is a solution to both at the same time.

Anyone who reports a legitimate violation should be given points. Anyone who reports a violation that is not legitimate should have points taken away.

Here is how it could work

If someone sees a “violation” and reports it then Yahoo investigates whether it is really a violation or is it just a conflict of opinions. If it is legit then reporter gets 5 points taken from violator. If it is clearly not a violation then reporter loses 5 points. Yahoo is then under pressure from both sides to reach a conclusion promptly. The first few reporters could get or lose points on any one violation.

Think of it as Report Rewards and Troll Taxes. What do you think of it as a solution?

  • Koala bear fingerprints match humans?

I read somewhere that the fingerprints of koala bears are so similar to human fingerprints that they could be confused with humans at a crime scene.

I don't know why koalas would be at a crime scene, but has anyone heard that and does anyone believe that?

  • Highest mileage on any car you owned?

Did you ever hang onto a car for so many miles that you were amazed it was still going? How many was that and how did you know when to get rid of it?

I had a friend with a Chevy that had about 130,000 on it. Its engine and body was OK but the brake lines under the car were rusting out. he used it for a trade in on a new car from a dealer that just wanted to know if it was still running. He had a tow truck drag it to the vicinity of the car dealer and he slowly drove it the last block and coasted to a stop in their lot to meet that requirement.

  • Can you lie about your gender in Yahoo!Answers signup?

Sometimes when I read a question or answer and compare the words to the name and avatar I get the impression that the person I am looking at is not really the gender they are claiming. I don’t mean that they are some kind of weirdo. I think instead they are pretending to be the opposite just to trick other participants. Does anyone else get the feeling that their minds are being messed-with and have they spotted some specific ones that are not what they claim to be?

I am guessing that this is the right category for this question but really have no idea if it is.

  • Improving school security with a color code?

I saw a news article about a local high school that has a new approach to security after the recent killings. They do not lock their outside doors, do not have metal detectors, and do not have a policeman at school. What they will do is give each teacher three colored cards that are red, yellow, and green. If the teacher thinks that there is an intruder in the school they will lock their classroom door, tell the kids to be quiet, and then slide a card out underneath the door. If the card is green everything is perfect in there. If it is yellow then a student is missing. If it is red they have a problem and need help.

Do you think they have been reading too many homeland security coloring book instructions or do they just not understand about intruders, guns, and potential violence? Do you think this will make the problem go away or that it will be worse since intruders will know where all the students are?

  • If you played a slot machine but left and a few seconds later another person won on it?

Do you think that if only you had a few more coins or a stronger bladder you would have kept playing and been that winner? Do you think that person just had better luck on the machine you had already primed to pay off? Is it particularly annoying if you kept seeing better and better (but not quite-winning) combinations showing up on the reels just before you left?

Or do you think that the slot machine is really playing you? Do you think the machine has been programmed to lead players on?

  • Did Retirement turn out to be your own heaven or hell?

After working all your life did you end up healthy, wealthy, and wise enough to enjoy your leisure? Can you afford to go anywhere or buy anything you want or are you bagging part time to meet your bills?

Did those dreams you had for years get stomped by economic reality, poor planning, or age frailty? Are you now sitting in the sunshine somewhere you always wanted to be and finding that it was all worth it? Or has your life without work become worse than your life with work?
