Cake as dumb as the Wal-Mart one – What would you say to bakery?
Cake decoration as bad as the one shown on the Wal-mart cake famous on YouTube is still happening.
I went to a family birthday party for a three year old relative. Her mother had ordered a fancy chocolate cake from “Bakery on the Common” in Natick Mass and asked for pink lettering. The clerk asked what color pink her daughter wanted. She said “Any would be OK since she likes all kinds of pink.” When she went to pick up the cake just before the party it said in pink lettering: “HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY ALL KINDS OF PINK.” The mother said the wording is wrong and the clerk said “No. it is not. We wrote down what you asked for.” The mother asked to speak to the manager and was told she would be back that afternoon. When she called and started to tell the manager what the problem was the manager said “Don’t bother to tell me. I already heard from my employees. You are wrong and if you didn’t like the cake you should not have bought it” and then hung up.
What would you have said if it was you? Obviously she will never go back there but there must be a way to respond to customer service that poor.
The store is not part of a chain. It is a single store and that manager is the owner.
Also keep in mind it was being picked up right before the party and there would be a lot of disappointed tots if there was no cake served there so abandoning it was not an option by then.

The customer is ALWAYS right, and I would have given them a piece of my mind! ... NO ONE can be stupid enough to put all of that on top of a cake! They say the average IQ is 100, and I thought that was very low - but people like this are the ones who bring it down (since their IQ is obviously well below 70). You can't really effectively debate with true idiots though. If she didn't get her money back, I'd take a photo of that cake and sue them (add in the mental anguish); and then let the local news channel know. They love to put stupid stuff like that on tv......

Take the next step in the chain. Call the district manager. The bakers were obviously taking the instructions to a moronic level. If the district manager won't provide customer service, then contact the walmart customer service line.

To me it sounds like someone was posing as the manager and there are some pranksters there that need to be fired. If it was me, I'd go kick their butts.
If they are that blatant about their pranks, I wouldn't trust anything from there. I would not eat that cake. Imagine what they did to it behind the scenes, given what they are willing to do outwardly. Yuck.

you were kind of both wrong the bakery person was lame and did not understand literal instructions but paying for it means you were satisfied.so the next step is to either go to another store manager at the store and hope they side with you.or take it as lesson learned, and be aware of morons in the world, and how to deal with them.

I would have refused to pay for it...there must have been some real idiot decorating that cake. I would go back to the store and demand a refund.

She should contact the corporate office or contact the general manager for that store. That is completely unacceptable. What's unfortunate, is they could have so easily rectified the situation and everyone would have left happy.

They only do their standard designs in their book. You may need a different type of bakery.

if u had no problem taking it and paying for it then u shouldnt be complaining cuz it wasnt that bad. i work at walmart and if someone is stupid enough to write that on a cake then they should get fired. when customers are unhappy, we re-do the cake.
