How do you write 4 squared times 2 to the fourth as a product of factors? What is the evaluation of the expression?

    4^2 * 2^4

    = (2*2)^2 * 2^4

    = 2^2 * 2^2 * 2^4

    = 2^8

    4² * 2^4 (sorry, can't write a superscript 4 on here :) )

    The exponent tells you how many of that factor to use. So the expression above equals:

    4 * 4 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2

    which you can multiply out on your own, I trust. It isn't 64, though. :) Hope that helps!

    4 * 2^4

    = 2^2 * 2^4

    = 2^6

    =64

  • [4²] * [2^4]

    = [4*4] * [2*2*2*2]

    = [2*2]*[2*2] * [2*2*2*2] (same as saying 2^8)

    = 256

    To Jay H: How do you type a superscript 2 (²)? The way I get it is by copying it from previous posts. Can you please tell me how to type it?
