There is no such thing as a Latino, first Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese all derive from a dead language called Latin which was spoken by the Roman empire 2 century's ago and these are called language's of romance Latin is not a place or a people, so when a person says I'm a Latino there very wrong, an example if a person is born in Mexico he or she is Mexican or from either of these country's like people from Spain they are Spaniards, people from Italy are Italians, people from France are French, and people from Portugal are Portuguese not Latinos, an example if born in the USA or naturalized American you are a Mexican American, or if your roots go back say Italy you are a Italian American and so an so please don't label your self's as something your not be proud of your roots and fore fathers. There's no such thing as a Latino.

I've been told that Hispanic is the correct term and Latino is considered an insult ( more as a slang)
some forms (scholarship, employment, etc) ask " white? hispanic? or black?")
In my opinion, they are both ok, but I prefer Hispanic.

latino and hispanic r almost the same.
latino is more south american and hispanic is more central america. puerto rico dominicans etc.
spain is european and r called spaniards. not hispanics not latinos.
reason hispanic came too is because most central americans r a mix of spaniards native americans, whites etc.
