Absolutely. A great book that takes you on a crazy adventure is Zoom. Ever seen it?

The other thing is "picture" book can be a misnomer. Most "picture" books do have text with them, though it is limited and probably inspires more discussion than anything. (I was once on the hunt for picture books to help me tell stories at school - especially history or science books, but when I checked out the books in this section - yes, picture books, I didn't find one without text. This was at a Books - A - Million I think.)

  • Of course. For example , the famous Mona Lisa painting.A picture can tell a thousand words.Small children learn to read in this way. They interprete the meaning of pictures, they talk about what the picture is telling them ; in this way they are learning vocab , oral skills , and pre-reading skills. Later they will associate words with the same pictures ; they learn the letters of the alphabet in very much the same way : associating letters with pictures e.g ,a as in apple.

not in the normal sense--picture books tell their own story-it sparks the imagination of young children-i taught preschool for 10 years--and those books were the ones my students enjoyed the most-hope this helps

Yes. If you have a good imagination, pictures can be a more powerful form speech than words can ever be.
