Yahoo news: Americans anxious about foreign ties, we feel less secure than ever. What do you think of this?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061018/ap_on_go_ca_st...

So on a scale of 200, 0 being most secure about foreign ties and 200 being least, the present score came up 130. Some of you will think the number somewhat accurate, some will think it is a lie.

My number would be closer to 160. I believe our foreign policy is ill-conceived and based on propaganda, and instead of nations coming together, we are driving them apart.

How would you score?

Other feedback?

Update:

I wonder if Lawrence or Wizzards have the scale turned around? They are saying "low" which would mean more secure on this scale, but it sounds like they are talking about being less secure... which would be a higher score. A bit confusing.

My score would be 180. Bush has given all foreign countries the idea that Americans just want to invade other countries and rob their resources at will. Eventually these countries will turn against us and many already have.

I think your number is a bit generous. It might now, given our perception in the world after our misdealing in Iraq and Afghanistan, be higher (I stand corrected) than the 160 score. We have alienated the world with our “us verses them” mentality. We incite global acrimony towards us when we arrogate to ourselves the prerogative of dictating what other countries should or should not do. We make ourselves look like deceitful thieves when ever we hide behind patriotism and the pretense of spreading democracy, when the rest of the intelligent world knows we are merely exploiting the war effort to fill the coffers of those who profit off of the military industrial complex. It should come as no surprise that there is so much international disdain concerning our nation.

I am Naturalized US citizen born and raised in Europe. The USA has always been resented over there and I agree with the Americans who say that it is mostly motivated by envy and jealousy. Now Europe thinks it doesn't need the USA anymore because the Soviet Union came undone so they now feel free to vent their bitterness and resentment. They are propagandizing against the USA. France who thinks of itself as an important country is leading the charge. They should cease and desist because when all is said and done, the only thing that they are really good at is surrendering.

Well, I think it's pretty low because Bush was and still is completely inexperienced in foreign policy and diplomatic relations, and so is Condi Rice. She only flies out for photo ops, no serious talks.

I think that Americans are driven to fear by watching the news on television and that it has everything to do with the ratings of the news shows and little to do with reality.

It seems Americans think for themselves-not as they are told to by the mainstream media.
