The phrase is British in origin. In the days before indoor plumbing, the bathrooms had no toilets. So after one went to his bathroom and did his business, he had to literally take his load outside to dispose of it in the backyard.

The phrase is no longer in general use in the U.S. We Americans now prefer to say that we are "taking a Bush".

Thank you and have a good day.

Do you "go" anywhere when you're "going" to the bathroom? I would hope not; otherwise, you'd have one really disgusting bathroom.

Sure you do - you take it to the toilet
