Servers only......your thoughts?

Do you find that those with the most money(business men, high society, travelers, etc..) are the worst tippers?

It seems to me that after 20 years in this business that this is true.

The average working person is a better tipper than those that obviously have money to burn.

I'd have to agree with you on that one, but on their behalf they do have to account for the money they spend if it's company money. I would say the best tippers are servers or people who have been in the business. I tip over 10% and I even tip a bad server, not as much but I just can't make myself short change someone, never know they may have had a bad day.

I strongly agree with what you said. My family have a restaurant across the street fom a well known univerisity and alot of times we have Professor, who comes in and eat for lunch. They tip no more than $1 per person. The well dress (suit & ties) are the worst tipper ever. We also deliver food to Doctors, Lawyers, Salon, and their average tip is about 1-5% of their bills. It's pretty pathatic. They delivery man is bringing food to you can you be a little more conisderate? As a server for 16 yrs I actually like those who dresses very causual. They don't expect much, Much nicer to the waitress, not to mentioned they respect their wait staff.

I really don't understand why most of the high educated people are not educated when it comes to tipping at restaurant. Sorry if I offend anyone but this is my opinion and I speaking from my experience and how I've seen it for 16 yrs.

I've noticed that, in general, wealthy people don't tip too well. Of course, there are always exceptions to that rule.

As for people on expense accounts, they're free to tip whatever they want. I've had the worst tips and the best tips from people using company cards.

The average working person understands what it's like to have to struggle to make ends meet and they tend to be more sympathetic.

Yes, I have found that those people who actually have to get their hands dirty for a living know how hard it is to struggle for extra cash therefore they tend to be more generious...This is of course not a hard fast rule but I think it tends to be true. If soemone wears a suit to work and has never waited tables, bartended, etc...they have no idea how hard it is both mentally and physically so they can not possibly appreciate the fact that we do it for lower than min. wage (which most people still haven't figured out! How sad!) and the tips are what pay our bills! These are the people that are suppose to be educated, maybe in whatever it is they do for a living but they really need to be educated in how most people live in this world!

Source(s): I have waited tables, bartended, cashiered, bag groceries and bussed tables for a living to put myself through college and support myself, my neices and my Husband and pay for our wedding! If that doesn't make me a qualified source I don't know what will! LOL

Yes! I can't tell you how many times I've noticed that.

The other worst tippers are farmers. I guess they need to save up to buy the family all new vehicles every year.

Not really, really depends on the person's (customers) attitude, and also on the servers.
