Some vitamins (the fat soluble ones) are actually poisonous in large amounts. You should only take the recommended dose.

Well Now that would depend on the vitamin now wouldn't it? For example a lot of people take high doses of vitamin C during the cold and flu season. iI is also an excellent antihistamine and works well for many folks with allergies BUT if you take the regular C in high doses you WILL get the runs; soooo take esterfied C.
Men should take NO iron as it builds up in their system and they have no way to get rid of it the way women do...unless you know a reason to the contrary...
Then there are the fat soluble vitamins and the EFAs and the amino acids and.... I would recommend a book about vitamis OR take the multiple for men as directed on the bottle and supplement(that is what the name is about)others if needed.
BTW: the very worse that can happen (unless you are allergic or take something weird) is that you will just have really expensive bodily waste...who needs that??

When you take too many vitamins your body will do one of two things.
One: it will get rid of it. That is a waste of money and effort.
Two: It will be stored. If the levels become too much they will become toxic.
Most doctors will recommend a good daily supplement and suggest that you get any extra vitamins from the food you eat.

Because too much of a good thing isn't always good. Too many vitamins is bad news for your liver which processes and breaks down everything-Your body can get rid of SOME excess, but not all.

You could possibly get "too much of a good thing", and get sick. Heres an informative article, look down near the bottom under "Vitamin side effects and overdose". Hope this helps!

vitamins A,D,E, & K are oil soluble and should not be taken in excess, the water soluble vitamins just wash out of the body no harm done except for the money you spent on them being peed away.

it depends, do you need those vitamins? or are you just overloading because you think you need it?
normal vitamins like multi-vitamins, C, or calcium tablets are fine. but don't OD on things like iron, because too much of a good thing is bad.
best to consult your doctor or pharmacist before you consume too much.
