Potty training my dog?

She is a small chihuahua mix and loves the floor! She goes outside frequently but still slips up in the house... how do I fix this?

Now this may sound cruel, but it is the best way to potty train a dog regardless. Okay since your dog is a small breed she gets overly excited easily, so when she gets that way put her outside. Another thing is to get news paper and pop her on the butt and stick her nose to the spot she went in. then put her outside Don't shove her nose in it though that's nasty. Just make sure she knows why you popped her. The reason you'd pop her with news paper is one it scares the dog and two if you pop the right way not hard it will not hurt her. Dogs are very smart and she should pick it up quick. There are times where you can't prevent an accident. Like if you were out or something. This is when you do not pop her but you embarrass her by shunning her and saying thing like bad girl or shame on you. She will really try to do better to empress you.

Source(s): I have raised dogs all my life and this is the most affective way to potty train them. It is easy to do and it doesn't take long at all.

Be sure to take her outside frequently about every hour or hour and a half. Put her water dish down about once an hour for 15 minutes. Feed her small quantity's 3 times a day. This should be no more than 3/8 cup per day maybe a little less than that. Use your crate. Feed her wait about 15 or 20 minutes and take her out if she does not go bring her in and put her in her crate wait another 10 or 15 minutes take her out again repeat until she goes and then praise her lavishly. She should not have the run of the house until she is trained. So keep her in her crate unless you are playing with her. Most important have patience, she will learn it will just take time.

Rubbing a dog's nose in its own mess is cruel and unnecessary. Remember that small dogs take the longest to housebreak, as their bladders are tiny, they can litterally take a drink of water and need to pee the second they stop drinking. This will get better with age, but you need to break her of her habits of peeing in the house prior to it getting out of hand. Your best bet is to start out with paper training her. If you do not wish to paper train your pup, then you will have to take her outside once every two hours, which is the average time that a small dog has to releive iteself. Do not go back in with her untill she has done what you want her to do, then make sure you praise her for it. If you actually see her attempt to go in the house, shout at her "NO", this will scare her and she will (hopefully) stop what she is doing, and you have to grab her and take her back outside till she finishes the job out there, praise again. It is a long process with small dogs, and I wish you luck. Patience is the key.

Well i have a chihuahua too. And when it would have an accident on the carpet i would get it and rub its nose on the spot and hit him(not hard) and tell him no. then i would take him outside and leave him there for a while. Now he will cry to us and go to the door to let him out when he wants us to open the door for him.

Put her on a high quality diet like http://www.frrco.com/121668

Get Pet Force, which you can buy above also, to get rid of urine and feces smell on your floor.

Make sure she is constantly supervised. Signs to look for that she has to "go" are circling, sniffing the ground, hunched back end, worried look, whining. Frantic running can also be a sign of needing to potty. If she shows any of these, take her out immediately.

Also, take her out after she wakes up every time, after she eats/drinks, and during play time to avoid accidents.
