Did you go to birthing/ lamaze class?

My first baby is due in two weeks. A few months ago, I was thinking about taking a lamaze class, so I asked my mom (who's had five kids) if it was worth it. She said, "Don't waste your time or money with that. Get an epidural."

I've had 7 kids and NO LAMAZE. I always thought that since women have been giving birth since the beginning of time without classes on "how to do it" that Lamaze was totally unnecessary.

I went to birthing class found some of the tips very helpful since I was totally against an epidural. The class gave me other methods of pain control such as a whirlpool bath ( which my hospital had) other types of drugs and many others. Some of these worked great but in the end I to had a C-section. I would suggest to every 1st time mom to go they do teach you more than had to breath these days and just having an epidural may not be the best for thing

I had two kids, and did not take classes for either one and both births were normal and without complications. My doctor (and mother of 5 kids of her own) was a better coach in the birthing room than any lamaze teacher could have been. Besides!! Who needs coaches when you can get laughing gas!!?? lol

I have had 3 babies naturally and cant imagine how lamaze would even help..lol, Seems like a waste of time and money to me. Your going to be in pain regardless of breathing, or positioning, or imagining peaceful things. No sense in going to that.

My first one, I didn't go. My second one we did, our third one we did and our last one we didn't. Our children are pretty spaced out 3 years, 8 years and 3 years. Lamaze is good because it helps you stay focused and in control no matter what delivery situation arises. You sound like you feel cheated out of natural birth. Perhaps your next baby you will be able to use the information you learned.

I went to lamaze with my first child, but for my second and third I didnt go. I found that I did not use one of the techiques they practice. It was a complete waste of time. I do not recommend it to anyone.

Nope. During labor I asked the midwife if lamaze would have taken the pain away. She said, "No. It's for women who feel out of control and need something to focus on during labor."

So it's for those weak-minded screaming ninnies. I wouldn't waste time and money on it. Birth is no big deal.

In all honesty, when we had our first, we went to the classes and my husband was more into it than I was. To me it was like a big pregnancy gripe fest and instead I was laughing in the back talking about how the forceps looked like overside salad tossers and giggled at how one woman said she had to "lube" herself up with lotion.

Call me immature, but I also didn't find the breathing exercises or anything helpful. Our daughter came early at 5lbs and it all happned so fast I didnt even give the things they taught us in that class a thought. I doubt I'll be going with this pregnancy either

We went to 2 classes, and then I went into pre-term labour, which ended up stoppping, but we never went back. Being in nursing, and all the pregnancy books I had read, I think I knew more that the teacher, and even corrected her a couple of times. lol. It was pretty useless for us, however, I do think it could be benificial to young teen moms, or those who are uneducated and unprepared for the labour and new baby.
