mold growing in my apartment due to flooding in carpet?

I moved into my apartment in March of 06 and in June the carpets started to get flooded with water. Needless to say there was damage to the carpet and now their is mold growing on the carpet and walls. I have sent letters to the Management and they have had guys come out and clean the carpet and paint the walls without treating the problem. Also Their seems to be black mold growing in the bathroom. Their are holes in the walls where spiders and ants are comming thru. Also I didnt see this before. But there is black mold behind the toilet bowl. Looks like maintenance tried to cover up alot of damage in the apartment with paint and some wood. In the bathroom They painted on the walls so paint is comming off due to the humidity in the bathroom. and the apartments around me are completely abandoned. because of sever damage. Now I want to get out of my lease immediately I have a lawyer but I want to have someone come out and inspect the apartment. Who should I get in contact wit

Black mold can be deadly; especially if someone is severely allergic; an attorney would be a good start.

Your landlord IS responsible for the mold problem..If you don't get any satisfaction from him, you can default from your lease but only with the aid of a good attorney; if any medical expense is incurred because of him ignoring a health hazard like mold; the attorney SHOULD be able to help you there too; also

Pick an attorney thats EXPERIENCED in this field tho; they're like doctors; some are more schooled/experienced in certain fields..

Also, you can be recompensed for the amount of time you've had to live in those conditions (a pro~rated refund on the amount of rent you pay each month)

Doesn't hurt to call and ask!!

    Stand up for your RIGHTS!!!!!!!!

You need to document EVERYTHING regarding the problem, from the onset...This will be indispensible to your attorney getting you what you deserve/require.

Contact the Department of Health. If there is a severe mold problem(like the one you are describing), They will charge the property owner/landlord and they will have to fix the problem. Because mold can be very dangerous, they may condemn the building. The Department of Health will see to it that you can get out of your lease with out incident.

If the other apartments are already abandoned due to mold, your local health inspector should be able to provide a letter indicating such. Save any other documents related to the maintenance work, photograph the mold and move stat.

when carpet is damaged as such, cleaning it is futile - this carpet needs to be removed

if unable to relocate, and have already contacted management, contact your local health department - for being required to live in mold infested area is hazardous to your health and everyone else in that building ...... start a petitiion for improvements pronto also

    best wishes!

Contact "code inforcement" in your city to come out and inspect your apartment to determine if they have broken any city or state codes. (sounds as if they have). If they have you will be released from your lease and they will be fined and could possibly be condemed(spelling). good luck
