Dog Breeding?

I think it would make a great mix. I am sure that someone doing this would know the laws in their area concerning this matter, unlike those who breed other types of "large breed" dogs.

A wolf hybrid, who is properly trained, would not be anymore aggresive and dangerous than a pit bull or a Husky.

Make sure you feed it plenty of Puppy Chow, That is great food for dogs!!!!!

By the way, my husband wanted to know if you were in the hole on your last litter cause you had so many vet bills from inbreeding your dogs or from fines from the police department from the complaints about your puppy mill. Just curious.

In my experience, the dog breeds which are the least likely to develop human aggression issues are the Pug, Beagle, English Bulldog, and Boston Terrier. I haven't really seen an example of any of those breeds that I would say had a serious aggression issue, though I have met more than a few nervous Beagles. Well-bred Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Pit Bulls, and Greyhounds would be right up there as well. On the other hand are the breeds which are most likely to be aggressive. I have never had a pleasant experience with a Yorkie. In fact, of the 50 or so Yorkies that I have encountered, I would say all 50 had some sort of aggression issue. Chow Chows, Akitas, and Chihuahuas are right up there as well. But, I would say that the most aggressive dog breeds are the various breeds of Terrier from Scotland, the Scottish Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, and Skye Terrier. Scotties and Westies in particular are very bitey dogs.

Wolves and wolf hybrids are not the pet for everyone. They must be contained in a secure pen because they can be escape artists. Caution must be used with small children – these animals play rough and often cannot be taught to inhibit their rough behaviour. They are also very protective of food and possessions. Most states require permits for these animals and in some states they cannot be owned at all.

We enjoy wolf dogs – they are sensitive, intelligent and affectionate. They are naturally hardy and are rarely prone to health problems or genetic disorders.

Canis Lupus and Canis Familiaris – the wolf and the dog – once mixed, one creates a hybrid. Wolf dogs are VERY special animals, with specialised needs that require more attention and work than an ordinary domestic dog

The Lupus Foundation is against hybridising. It is not the animal – but rather the potential owners – that we have a problem with. NOT ALL hybrid owners are aware of the animals needs, nor are they sufficiently knowledgeable on the subject of wolves or hybrids when they purchase these animals.

In the end, it is the animal that suffers!

Usually by the time the animal has out-grown the “cute puppy” stage, the owners realise that they have a “difficult” animal on their hands. Not knowing what to do with them, they are usually “farmed out” to unsuspecting new owners, euthanaised or abandoned.

The AKC part would not matter inthe least since the puppies could not be registered. AND in many state, you could be fined, and the puppies confiscated. How would it be better for a breed to make mutt puppies???????

Huskymom, I do know the law in MY area...Wolf hybrids are ILLEGAL. Newfies, however, are not as they are not an aggressive, whiney breed. Wonder how that helps THIS guy????

I handled wolf crosses many years ago. They are not reliable in their temperment or behavior - at least not as compared to a domestic dog. Very reliable for a wolf - you never gave an inch, never looked away and never ever backed off or showed fear.

I would never bred a Lovley AKC reg. German Shepard with a wolf. Wolfs are magnificent animals but they should have never been made into pets as people have them today. If you bred them chances are you will not only make more unwanted dogs, but you would destroy some of your German Shepherd and make some ugly dogs.

How would adding a "mutt" into the mix make a purebred better?! You will have nothing but mutt puppies.
