2 to 3 tubes of blood for a simple blood test?

No they are not doing experiments on our blood. The reason they take so many tubes is that they are checking for different things. So you go to the Dr and he orders a CBC, Chem 20, lipids and you have to fast for 12 hours prior to the test. The Dr is checking a complete blood count, cholesterol level, liver enzymes, and most likely checking your cardiac panel to see if there are any abnormalities, or infections. They take so much because certain tests take more than a little bit of blood. Not too worry, they are not real live vampires.

It depends on :

-how many tests are conducted. (more the number of tests, more the quantity..)

-what sort of tests are done ..(different tests require different types of samples...eg : for Haematology, sample is colected in EDTA tubes, for Blood Bank tests in plain tubes etc.)

-The samples collected like this in the outpatient cannot be used for transfusion...dont worry..

If you are too apprehensive about the quantity collected, have a chat with the consultant pathologist in the lab where you are going ...he will help you out..

you know I've wondered the same thing myself and I've come to find out the reason a lot of them do it that is to run a long stretch of test just to make sure everything is okies...I know if they too much from me I get really dizzy ..but most of the time they do it just to be on the safe side besides right when they are taking blood your body is making more cells to make up for it hope this helps

No, it does not go to a blood bank. They carefully screen every donor before blood is drrawn, and test every pint that is drawn..

BTW The4re is not enough blood drwn for medical testing to cause fainting spells.
