If the law states all passengers must wear seat belts then why, by God, are school buses the option?

Very good point lalily............ I've voiced that for years. The most important commodity we have is our children. But they have only just recently started installing seat-belts in school buses. The problem was really one of economics. The buses would have to have shorter routes because the driver would have to wait until each child had buckled up after getting aboard the bus. That would translate into more buses, more drivers, and more fuel and maintenance. Politicians know that means increased taxes. They can't win votes by increasing taxes. Many people don't have children and don't care if the children are safe if it means they might have to pay higher taxes. So the insurance companies that forced seat-belts laws into legislation made a loophole in it along with the lawmakers to help politicians keep their jobs. It's all about money............not safety.

The seat backs on the school bus are made taller to act as a safety devise qnd take the place of the belt. Besides can you imagine trying to insure that all of the kids fasten their belts and then having to help them with the release when it's time to get off.

My husband has been saying that for years. Our kids are the most precious thing we have. Maybe a politican should really jump on this and keep his promise to us.I can remember when I was young our bus even had kids standing for a short time during our trip or maybe four of us sitting in the same seat.

The option should at least be available on buses. I know the very few buses that had seatbelts, I used them. It's a shame to save a few bucks and bet against children's lives.

Yes, it is but the weird part is that the preschoolers and the kindergartners have to be seat belted in but not the rest of the kids.

Because that law is for private vehicles.

School buses, cabs, city transit buses, medical transportation, airport limos ect...all public

i've always wondered this too. the only answer anyone has ever given me has to do with the size of the vehicle. if a school bus hits another vehicle it's more likely to just run right over whatever it hits. but then, what if it hits like a semi truck or something???? or what if it hits another schoolbus???? hell, i don't know.

I think that maybe, since children aren't taxpayers, the people in charge don't figure that they are worth saving, yet.

Kids don't generate revenue, as schools take revenue, it's a losing proposition ,and you can bank on that.
