New moon is Early Sunday morning at 1:14 am EST. After that it will begin to wax (get bigger). This is a wonderful site to learn about the moon and moon phases. You can look up what moon phase you (or your friends and family) were born during. If you click at the bottom for more sun and moon phenomena you will find a lot more info.

This is another useful site where you can make a sun rise/set and moon rise/set calendar customized to where you live:
http://www.sunrisesunset.com/custom_srss_calendar....
And another one for sun and moon rises/sets:

A good site about moon phases:

I know this is more info than you asked for but I thought you might find it useful or at least entertaining.

Waxing is leading up to the full moon, waning is diminishing to the New Moon. Technically right now it is the New Moon for me as the Moon became a New Moon at 1:15am Sunday Morning.

Good answer Emily!!
This evening at dark was the first day of the new month based on the lunar calendar which is determined by conjunction.
After the first day of the first month, the moon will begin to wax, within 12 to 36 hours the cresent will become visable.

This evening is actually the beginning of the New Moon and the 8th month of the lunar calendar.
