If it is a sin to make statues then why did God tell Moses to build statues of Cherubim of beaten gold...?
to place in the sanctuary God commanded him to build (Ex. 25:18-19). God also told Moses to make a saraph and mount it on a pole (Num. 21:8) Also, in the 1 Kings chapters 6 & 7, Solomon built statues of cherubim in the temple that God told him to build according to His instructions.

It is not a sin to build a statue.It is idolatry to build a statue and worship it.Which is not what the Israelites did

I think it was because the people that Moses led were building "Golden calfs" and losing insight to the real God. But, doesn't it state in the Bible "There shall be no image on earth that represents that which is in Heaven" ?

All those statues were to glorify God and make His temple more magnificent, not one was to glorify the cherubim.

God is not bound by his own laws, and these old testament things were "types" of future new testament realities.
Many of those who fail to recognize the wide ranging, virtually unlimited authority God gave to his new covenant universal church vainly attempt to find authority for their peculiar faith traditions in old testament scripture.
It's not in there.

Because Jesus turned the world upside down by saying most of the Old Testament shouldn't be followed.

if one wanted to split hairs, the law is about graven images. that is, solid statues, like carved out of wood, or stone, or sculpted with clay. the structure of the cherubim is hollow, gold supported by wood I belive they figured...

its not a sin to make statues, its only a sin to worship them. That's what many protestants don't seem to get

He didn't tell us not to build them He told us not to worship them...Ask Jesus to let you understand what it is you are reading...God bless
