When I turned 18, it was 1994 and the corruption in the Democratically held Congress and Senate was well established, much like the corruption of the Republican held houses is now. I can not abide corruption, and so I registered as a Republican, caught up in the swell of pride that surrounded the Contract with America. Since that time, I have watch that Contract wadded up, spat on, and used as a rag to catch the filth that drips from the Republican party in ways the Democrats never dreamed of. I registered as an Independant last year, and assume I will remain one for some time. I will vote as I always have, against the tide of deepest corruption. For now, that means voting Democrat. If the Democrats retake power and corrupt just as quickly as the Republicans did, I will vote Republican again. I will not appologize for corruption to feel like part of a team, which is what I feel far too many Democrats did in 1994, and what far too many Republicans are doing today.

First, I'm a child of God, and a citizen of the world.

I was born here in the United States so I am equally an American.

The issues are not decided by the candidates.

They are decided by the platforms of the party that the candidate is running on.

The Democratic platform serves the needs of us working class and the underpriveledged where the Republican platform serves only the needs of big greedy corporations , so thus I always will vote for Democratic candidates.

I hope Mark D changes his mind about voting in the future. I hate to see anyone walk away from their voice in this country. Even when one's favored candidate does not win, you've expressed your opinion when you vote. And it does send a message to the "other side" that there are some issues out there that people have very strong opinions about.

The way you've phrased the question seems to be a challenge to one's patriotism. Aligning myself with a particular party doesn't make me less American. Am I missing your intent?

I'm a Republican, and yes I do primarily vote according to party lines. I believe that if I want the President's agenda to succeed, then I need to throw my full support behind the people who will support the President's policies. But I also freely admit there are some positions taken by Republicans on which I do not agree.

So if it's an issue that I feel quite strongly about, I would like to believe that I'd cross the party lines to vote for the person who I think will best represent that issue.

Thanks for the question -- it was a good one, and refreshing!

I am definitely an American first. The Democrats and Republicans have run to the middle so much and placated so many people with money, that there's not a thin dime's difference in their overall performance.

They do not know how to help people and both parties support all "War on X". They only know how to draft restrictive and punitive laws. Politicians and governments are not good at "convincing" people. Only FORCING them to obey.

Getting more people to vote in the first place will help diminish the power politicians have of buying groups' support with campaign promises.

For me, I vote third party only. You have more choices than you are led to believe. To see ALL of the ballot choices in your district, go to NON PARTISAN Project Vote Smart. or current the COMPLETE party guide: http://www.politics1.com/parties.htm , http://www.vote-smart.org/

American first- have been an American all my life. But when it comes to voting, I'm a democrat. How I vote, however, is based on my own feelings. Group thinking isn't always the right thing to do.

No one that answered here even seem to realise what their saying. They say their American's first then what ever. I'm an American period no and ifs or buts. If your voteing issues and leting Dems and Repubs. continue to distroy this great nation/ How can you claim to be an American. The only issue that is of any importance is protecting or freedoms and our country. Everything else is favortisim.

I am 100% american. Born and raised.

I will normally vote republican, but it depends on the issues that a person is presenting... Where do they stand for what I believe in? and that is how I base my decision to vote.

I've always been an American first. And from 1990 to 2002, I voted about 98% for Republicans.

Now I'll never vote again. So I'm just an American.

Actually an American first then a Republican. I am only interested in the moral issues to be honest becouse my personal belief is if we don't keep our country moral God will punish us and the rest won't matter. I would go with whoever offers that and I'm sorry but so far it's been Repbulican. Especially in my state of Wi.

Good question. I think today there are too many factors and things are too complicated to be decided along policy lines. Each issue has to be judged on its own merit.
