what is wrong with naming your child Espn?

i think that its a cute name and don't pay any time to what other people think. I like aspen, too.

Wow! I think I might know your kid. :-) Especially once you mentioned the razorbacks... There is a little boy at my daycare (WeeCare just in case it's your's) that's named Espn. I never pronounced it E.S.P.N. although the first time I saw this name on the baby's stuff I made the comment "I wonder if the parents are sports fans." After that I didn't think anything else strange about the name. I don't think that naming your kid after something you're into is any different than naming your kid something just because you think it's cute. Although I can see how some might have pause when trying to decide how to pronounce Espn. There are just more consonents in a row without any vowels breaking them up than you normally see in English.

It's a very nice name in itself, but sometimes a parent should take into consideration the possibilities of being teased. Kids can be cruel, and no parent wants to subject their kid to even the slightest shame of the name they were given.

There was once a song about it, "Boy Named Sue." The kid ended up becoming a tough and bitter adult having to fight his way through childhood.

Also the Simpsons made reference to naming a child carefully (Homer didn't want to have his son named after anything that rhymed with a rude word. He obliviously, however, okayed the name "Bart.")

But do what you wish. After all, if a kid doesn't like his own name, he might choose to be called a nickname at school anyway.

Obviously, you knew the correlation between the name and the sports channel. While he isn't being made fun for it now comeon--he's only two. Two year olds are interested in picking their noses and not finding ways to make fun and adults they wouldn't dare make fun of someone for having a name. The rule I have with naming my own children is that if I see a name that I have to sound out to pronounce--it's not a good one. That name you have has to be sounded out over and over just to make sure it's right. Don't you think teachers are going to notice? Anyway--I would never tear someone down for naming their child something different but I would tell them to reconsider.

As for the name having something to do with him making a national league. For one--he's only two, you don't know yet if he will make it or not. For two--there are plenty of people who are named Christopher and John who make the national leagues.

Had this been the original question I would have pointed out the ESPN correlation and then told the woman to name her son what she wants or not even commented on it at all. Naming kids is a hard thing and I feel bad if she got any negative comments. As for you dragging it out I really think you are just asking for someone to be rude.

Someone in the 60s named their child "Grand Funk Railroad" after their favorite band. Come on get real, a name is something you carry with you for the rest of your life.

There is nothing wrong with it.... Personal choice. I personally would not choose that name, and I can see where kids would be cruel, but it just builds character. So name your children whatever you want, and the adults here should have a little more compassion. If they did, maybe some of these children wouldn't be so cruel!

they think that Espn is bad yet the same ones are naming their kids Brooklyn, Newyork, Africa

I never made fun where name is concern

I find it special that will take the time to name their children something that have meaning to them

i don't thionk there is anything wring with that. But I would rather pick Aspen Espen unless you are a sports fan. Then Espn would be the choice. (not a sports fan though)

Misaki, Daisuke, Keisuke, Yuki, and Natsumi are incorrect (for my area) to call a toddler who isn't jap. Akira would not look that undesirable and sounds extraordinarily. perchance in case you altered the spellings of the different names or got here across names reminiscent of them it may be lots greater suitable :)

Just look at the names of Frank Zappas kids and you will know that anything goes. I personally know twins named Blade and Cole and others named Blaze (no i) and Hunter. The name is your choice and that of your spouse. No one elses. The rest of the world has to just "live with it".

Personally, I love it! I don't give opinions on other people's childrens names because it is their child!
