What did everybody think of Torchwood?

It was on BBC3 last night. Personally I found it a little underwhelming, and I was quite disappointed. I don't think I shall be watching it again.

But I want to know what all of you thought.

As a Cardiffian (recently moved up into the valleys) I just found it hard to beleive because the people were nothing like Cardiffians!!!!

For one thing their Welsh accents were MUCH stronger! People in Cardiff don't have very strong Welsh accents as a rule. This lot sounded like Valleys types or North Walians. It was like listenign to a bunch of rejects from Pobol y Cwm (The Welsh language soap opera) It was like they were exaggerating the accent thing to appeal to non-Welsh people's ideas of Wales.

Same with the names - Everyone had a REALLY Welsh name - Gwen, Rhys, Ianto, Carys etc. Most Cardiffians have "ordinary" names like Jeff and Susan! LOL! It was just sort of really stereotypical Welsh.

Plus Cardiff is a very diverse, cosmopolitan city and that didn't come accross at all. I laughed so hard at the fat white valleys boy working in the Pizza Parlour. If that had really been Cardiff, he'd have been a Somali.

Apart from that though (I just found it irritating like they were desperate to portray this really stereotyped image of Wales) it was cool. I loved John Barrowman - he's so dreamy!!! Was a bit disappointed that Suzie got killed off straight away as I loved Indira Varma in Bride and Prejudice. Not so keen on Gwen but she might grow on me. Owen is so cute and cheeky (reminds me of my boyfriend who's also a Londoner!)

Its so funny seeing all the familiar city sights on a TV series! They actually filmed an episode in the pub where my BF works - I think its one of the later ones though. So can't wait to see that,

I loved Sci Fi and fantasy and its so cool to have one set right here in Cardiff!!!!

I never got into Dr Who, not the first time or more recently, as I found the aliens and prop second rate (and yes I know that was supposed to be part of the appeal but I still didn't get it).

I was dubious about Torchwood when I heard it was a spin off, and expected more of the Dr Who drivel, but Torchwood was a breath of fresh air.

The characters are punchy and believable, if a little 'green' and the effects whilst not things blockbusters are made of, are very good. The story lines are a little racy (and perhaps more adult) than those of Dr Who, but good for the BBC. Let the kids watch Dr Who and leave Torchwood for us adults.

I loved it and want to have children with it. I was hoping I would be disapointed but could not find fault.

I thought it was well written, and well acted with a great cast and a well thought-out concept.

I will certainly buy the DVD.

I do not watch much TV - Torchwood was the first time I turned on the box in over a month! So I don't watch cr*p for the sake of it.

Personally I wasn't too impressed with it - I think Captain Jack Harkness was at his best in the first season of Dr Who.

But then again; who knows. It's only the beginning for Torchwood and it may grow on me a bit more as time goes by.

I think it just needs to find its pace and place. Ask me again after an episode or 5. (I did find it a little underwhelming).
