Statute of Limitations before 1996...?

on sexual assault crimes? Specifically, how long did a person have to file charges against someone who assaulted them?

Update:

A DNA test confirmed the true identity of the person who really committed the crime, but it's too late to press charges because of the statute of limitations - so he goes free.

    Yes it is two late to press charges. Statue of limitations are 7 years.
