Are "Best Answer - Chosen by Asker" really chosen by Asker?
I see so many threads where the "Best Answer - Chosen by Asker" is the very first answer in the thread, no matter if that is the most stupid answer.
Are askers really chosing the best answer or yahoo just chose it automatically?

Yes, they are. When the asker chooses a best answer from anywhere on the answer list, it moves to right under the question, above all the other answers, and there's no way to know where it originally was in the list, so I'm not sure how you know if the chosen best answer was also the first answer recieved. In questions that I've answered, I haven't noticed any particularly tendancy for askers to choose the first answer as best, although I've definitely noticed that people do tend to vote for the first answer when voting on an undecided question.

it is chosen by asker and just because you see it as a stupid answer it may not have been stupid to the asker. however some people do just pick at random or the most stupid answer to be funny or to help a friend get points.

The asker chooses the best answer in this situation. You have to go into your account page to choose the best answer. Otherwise, voters eventually choose the best answer after a certain time period. Yahoo does not choose the best answer ever.

When it says "Chosen By Asker" then the person who asked it chose it. If it says "Chosen By Voters" then it means that it went to a vote and others voted and it was chosen.
- How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

If the answer is chosen by the asker, it is in fact chosen by the asker. If the answer is chosen by voters, it will say so.

I choose all of mine, and first one on the list has nothing to do with it!
I choose based on relevance to question, quality, amount of effort expended, thought put into the answer, spelling and grammar (though I do not rule out really good answers even if these are atrocious), and sometimes, humor or originality.
NO Best Answers are NOT automatically chosen by Yahoo, to answer your Q.

Yeah I agree that greater thumbs up generally potential a greater suitable answer. I see Askers choosing awful solutions each and all the time, and it bugs me. BTW, somebody above pronounced which you don't get any factors from thumbs up yet it quite is not continually real. if your answer is chosen as maximum suitable answer, you get 10 factors PLUS one factor for each thumbs up.

Actually, the same very question is on "Yahoo.Answer" in Italy...
"A little mess" happening.
I think that a lot of people in the "Answers" are thinking too much only to earn points,on one side, and accepting wrong answers on the other.
This, for a "public service as Yahoo" can create wrong misguided information.
Therefore,I would suggest that Yahoo put a "filter" in order to assure at least,a correct general information. And,who earns points, earns them for good reasons and in the interest of the Yahoo.Answers community knowledge.
Differently,
the things, would risk to become really unmanageable .
Source(s): I never answered to earn points. From Italy. - soofiLv 51 decade ago
I dont find any thng wrong going on in choosing the best answers At least whenever i chose the best answer myself it was indicated the way it should have been done.
You ask a question and choose the best answer for it urself then only you will see if its not done properly.
So dont try to prove unnecessarily that the way going on is wrong

It's the answer the Asker wanted to hear or thought it was the best. It doesn't mean that you would like it.
