actually studies have shown that rather you do it in the am as to the pm, it really does not matter. as long as your getting the exercise you need for that particular day. like myself....for instance, i only exercised when my husband was working, and the kids went to bed. that usually was around 10 or even 11 sometimes, so it really does not matter.you don't get cramps and all that whatnot. its safe to do it before bed as much as it would be as soon as you wake up....no matter, just do it

According to Ayurvedic (Science of Life), Medicine (an ancient holistic healing system out of India from which yoga, acupuncture and many other healing modalities emerged, and goes back at least 5,000 years, possibly longer) exercise is best done between the ours of 6AM-10AM. This will charge up your vital energy/metabolism for the day.
Definitely do not exercise within 2-3 hours of going to sleep. Exercise will stimulate production of adrenalin and cortisol, hormones produced by the adrenal glands, and you may have difficulty falling asleep.

Afternoon and evening is the best for me. It's when I have the most energy and I can work out longer and harder. About not wanting to stimulate yourself before bed, I often exercise so I CAN fall asleep, because it gets rid of my extra energy. It also sparks your metabolism at a time when it's starting to wind down.

Whenever you have time actually. I find working out in the afternoon, before dinner to be the best time. Not only is your metabolism up, you also work out any stress from the day.
