Start>Run>type msconfig>startup tab>there will be many items with a checkbox. Uncheck the items which you do not want. UNCHECKING CRITICAL ITEMS WILL BE HARMFUL. CHECK THE PATH OF THE ITEM FIRST. IF YOU ARE UNSURE DONT UNCHECK THE ITEM.

I have three (3) answers for you to choose from but you do need to have better than average knowledge on running applications and their dependencies . If running Windows XP , you can locate your running processes/applications by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and the unnecessary items can be halted . You can customize your start-up proceedure by going to administrative properties. Open "standard" , which will be a tab at the bottom of the page. This list contains every system function in your operating system . Here , you can "Disable" those that you don't feel are necessary. A good example would be " Universal Plug & play " , which is known to be an open portal for back door hackers. To disable this item...open the properties file for UP&P and the drop down folder will allow automatic, manual or disable ...make your choice . If it is running...you can stop it. Then at the top of the folder...you'll see "Log in". Open this file and you can disable it from beginning at start up. I can't state it any stronger than to say you need to fully understand which items you can stop. Answers two(2) & three(3) are software applications that I personally use and don't get paid if you use them or not .I find them very effective and both give you the option of stopping processes from starting with boot up . Webroot's "Spy Sweeper" call's it a shield and gives you the option to disable any item that begins at start up. Iolo Technologies "System Mechanic 6" will not only give you the same options as spy sweeper but they give you a "Mini" tutorial on the level of importance of each item. Then if you need additional clarification they summons "Google" for a definitive answer. Good Luck

In Start Menu, click "RUN",type "msconfig" and press enter.
Microsoft Configuration Utility appears,go to the "Startup"tab, now you see the list of the programs which start automatically at windows startup. You can Enable or Disable them.
But if you want to make a program to start with windows and can not see it in tha list, then just drag and drop their shortcut to the "Startup"folder in your start menu,"All programs" Section.

click on the starting up button and visit Run. even as the container comes up, type in MSCONFIG. this would open yet another window. click on the Startup tab and those are the classes that commence each and each and every time you commence your pc. Uncheck the classes you don't want to commence on boot up.

thru msconfig.....but do not try it if you have no idea what you are doing. you can also go to control panel and add/remove programs to get rid of things you do not want or need.
