Who do i call to report a business that is scamming people?

I went to a fair in my home town and a woman had a booth for her business which was photography. I got my daughters picture taken with her at the special rate and then later called again to have them taken at a whinery. I paid up front for the photo's and she said it would take two weeks. I spent 185.00 on the pictures and the check was cashed two days later. After the two weeks i tried calling her to check on the status of the pictures. No one would answer and i left messages. Soon however the phone wouldn't even go to a voicemail it says "The person you are calling is unavailble at this time, please try again later" I did this three months, and still haven't heard from the woman. I don't have any other way to contact the lady and still don't have my pictures, who do i report this to?

Update:

I did pay with a check and called my bank but they said once it has been cashed there is nothing they can do

Update 2:

I also have tried to get an address for her, i've done people searches and so on, can't get any number other then the number of the "business" I don't see how it could be a scam, she took the pictures two different times, the first time she gave them back and so i had them taken again. UGH Makes me so mad!

    BBB Better Business Buereu

    and the local media

  • You could post on a website called ripoffreport.com After that, be more careful when you prepay for anything (especially at a fair)

The BBB is a shakedown organization that can have a clean record for a bad business for years, all they have to do is respond to your complaint.

The lady at the fair isn't a member of the BBB anyway.

the better business bureau better know as the bbb however i don't think there's much they can do for you as it seems it was a scam and if they can't track the person down then you'vepretty much been had and let this serve as a lesson learned the hard way about whom you do business with but other then that i feel for you don't feel bad there are alot of scams like this and you're probably not the only one who has fallen for this

First, contact your local police to see if she has done this to anyone else. If she has, contact your local district attorney's office and ask if you can press charges. Check with your local newspapers to see if they have heard anything. Check your local Better Business Bureau to see if she is a member. If she is, ask then for her current phone number.

You could also send her a letter, registered, return receipt requested to prove that you have been trying to contact her to get the photos.

    Good luck.
