Am I Really That Far?

I told my doctor at my first appointment that my last period started on August 14. Last Friday he said I was 9 weeks and 1 day.

Well, I started doing math and that would actually be (as long as my math is right) August 17 as a conception date.

That would be the Thursday that I had my period. Of course I never had hard daes for anything written down so I have no idea. But, how lokely is that that I would get pregnant on thhat Thursday when my period started on Monday?

Thanks for the help! I'd like to be as far along as possible (away from the misscarrage phase). But, don't think it's very likely. I've got my first ultrasound on Friday but want to know if I am possibly going to be dissapointed by finding out I'm only 8 weeks??

Update:

Thanks for all of your help! That makes a lot more sense. I didn't realize that the 40 weeks started at the first day of your last period. I was thinking the 40 weeks started from appoximate conseption date!

Thanks again!

I think you are confused a little, and I don't know how you are getting these dates of when you conceived?

If the first day of your last period was Aug. 14, that means you probably got pregnant somewhere around Aug. 28th (approximately), assuming your cycle is 28 days long. and that you ovulated in the middle (day 14) of your cycle, which is typical.

Doctors count your gestational age from the first day of your last period, Aug. 14, which means that Monday (Oct. 23) was the last day of your tenth week. (in other words, doctors really start the count before you are even pregnant because there is no way to know when you actually got pregnant).

Whether you are 8 weeks or 9 weeks or 10 weeks along doesn't make too much difference, though, so I wouldn't sweat it. 40 weeks is a long time, and the baby will come when its ready regardless of what week it is.

Just take good care of yourself!

Doctors start counting the weeks from the first day of your last period--not the date of conception (because you can't know for sure when the baby was actually conceived--sperm can live in your body for a few days). So, the baby is actually a couple weeks younger than the number you actually count. Don't stress over it, it just makes things simpler to do it this way.

Go to this site and input the date of your last period it will calculate everything for you. My last period was the 25th August and I'm 8 weeks and 5 days so it sounds like your further on than nine weeks!!!! Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last period NOT when you concieve!

well according to ur last menstrual cycle ur almost 10 week along---remember that that means that the fetal age of the baby is almost 8 weeks along but they cound on 40 weeks-----so she is right----. U got pregnant after 2 weeks after ur menstural cycle but they count it as of the day of ur last period---during ur ultrasound they will let u know exactly how far u are---I think almost 10 weeks

on the 23 you should've been at 10 weeks... so but according to your info about how far along the doc says you are would put you conceiving on the 30th of aug. .. which is about right

    Go to: http://www.due-date-calculator.com/

According to this you are due 05/21/07... and you are 10 weeks 2 days along. I used this and figured dates, my doctor gave me the exact same dates then too.
