I have rescued a kitten that was living outside. I already have 2, 1 1-2 year old sibling cats inside..What do

My indoor cats are male and female siblings and have always got on well..We've had them since birth..With the our new kitten, tho's she's healthy, she is sneezing a lot and has weeping dark-colored stuff from her eyes..Our inside tom was sneezing for almost a week before we brought the new kitty indoors, but now he's not only still sneezing but has weepy eyes too...Any ideas about what I should do??My older cats are slow to accept this new addition...will they get over it soon and what can I do about this also...they both have started playing a little with her, and our female cat isn't hissing at her anymore...I would appreciate any opinions on these questions...

Your kitten probably had a cold when you brought it inside. You'll need to take at least one of them to the vet to get some meds for them. The good news about the other two accepting the "new addition" is that after a little while, they'll all be the best of friends. There is an adjustment period of at least 3 weeks before they stop hissing all together. After that it's all up hill from there.. And Good for you for taking in a stray. I have 10 kids (cats) myself and all but 2 were strays.

It may be a good idea to take the new kitten to the vet. Dogs and cats can get what I think is called stipple to distemper which has the symptoms of a cold but if I'm not mistaken can cause death in a cat or dog.

Are your other cats spayed and neutered, if not the female cat may have a little jealous streak. I know if they were both males it would be a territorial thing that cats and dogs have. I hope I've been of some help and good luck. I am a sucker for stray animals and I have a stray cat. She is now pregnant.

Have you considered this kitten actually might belong to someone else? Who might be a little girl or boy fretting for their lost kitten!

I would put up some notices in the street stating the description of the kitten, even post a picture of it if you are able to on the notice. As it could be a bit dangerous to advetise your contact on the notice, ask your local vet if you can put their number (telephone) on the notice to "screen" the calls.

The kitten definitely needs to be checked by a vet as it probably will need to be on antibiotics for the sneezing and weeping eyes. And you certainly don't want your cats to get sick from the kitten.

    Best of Luck!

Well you need to take your cats to a vet. One you brought in a stray & you have no idea what condition it was in or what it could give to your other two. It is always best to take the new addition to a vet to be thoroughly checked out before bringing it home. Two it sounds like your cats are already starting to adjust. Give it a couple months & I'm sure they'll all be chasing each other around the house & knocking over your plants & the like just for kicks!

Yes, I get what you mean, but the puppy's going to need a crate until it's reliably housetrained and past the chewing stage - that's until 8 months at the least when it'll be finished teething. The dogs can still keep each other company, just when you're home. It's not safe for your things or the dogs for them not to be crated until this puppy's older. What you do is start working with your older dog so she's not destructive because of separation anxiety. It's not hard to do - and there's also meds you can get from your vet to be used in conjunction with training. But you've got to make sure first that the destruction isn't because of boredom. If dogs don't get LOTS of exercise - physical and mental through training - they get frustrated and bored and destructive because of it. If that's her reason, you're only going to end up with 2 destructive dogs so make sure both get plenty of exercise and training.

Have your pets been to a vet? They probably just have a cold but if they don't get better soon you may want to get them some help. As far as your kitten and older cats getting along, give them some time. You said they're already playing with her so that's a good sign. Sometimes they may get a little rough with eachother, but they're just reestablishing the pecking order--you know, I'm the boss etc. But once they get used to eachother they'll be fine.

Source(s): Have one older cat 1 1/2 year old, and just got 2 new sibling kittens from the pound 1 month ago--things were shaky at first but now they're just fine and we have a small place :D

i can help you about your other cats exepting your rescued one. see, about a year ago we rescued a kitten that was being thrown into a dumpster out side of mcdonalds. we already have a cat who we have had for 13 years. she took it kinda hard when we brought the new one in, she would hide under the beds and hiss when ever the kitten (klanna) came near. it's a year later and she is still having problems exepting klanna, but sense your cats has had experince with one of them (our cat having none, always been the only cat) i think that they will exept your kitty faster and more willingly. your not alone when it comes to cats and "getting along".

    good luck.

THE KITTY THAT YOU RESCUED MORE THAN LIKELY HAS AN UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION, WHICH IS VERY CONTAGIOUS TO THE OTHER ANIMALS. YOU SHOULD DEEP THE SICK CATS AWAY FROM THE HEALTHY ONES. YOU SHOULD ALSO GET YOUR NEW KITTY CHECKED FOR FELINE AIDS AND LEUKEMIA, BECAUSE THEY ARE ALSO CONTAGIOUS. AS FAR AS INTRODUCING THE NEW KITTY TO THE OTHERS, IT JUST TAKES TIME. NORMALLY THEY SHOULD ACCEPT THE NEW KITTY IN A FEW WEEKS. JUST FROM EXPERIENCE, I HAVE FOUR AND I JUST ADDED MY LATEST ADDITION ABOUT A MONTH AGO. JUST GIVE ALL YOUR KITTIES THE SAME AMOUNT OF ATTENTION SO NO ONE FEELS LEFT OUT. GOOD LUCK!

before you bring a stray into the home that already has existing cats in it you need to have it checked out at the vet...they need to do testing for feline aids and leukemia...also they need vaccinated and tested for parasites as well as fleas and earmites these are all things that can be passed onto your home cats they runny eyes can be healed with antibiotic drops from the vet
