What is the difference between a tree limb and a tree branch?

    There is a little song about it.

    The leaf was on the twig, the twig was on the branch, the branch was on the limb, the limb was on the tree, the tree was in the woods, & the green grass grew all around.

    Or some thing like that.

    A limb is a main branch growing from the trunk of a tree. A branch is smaller and shorter than a limb and grows along a limb.

    Its this way Henry,,, a limb is the large arm coming from the trunk of the tree and a branch comes out of the limb!!

    I believe a limb is a big extension of the tree, but a branch is alot smaller, hope this helps

  • A limb grows off the main trunk of the tree. A branch grows off of it.

    I agree that a limb stems from the main stallkk or trunk and a branch would stem from the limb; like arms to fingers.
