most of these people who answered are wrong. Men making more money is not relavent pretaining to your question. it would be relevent if we were talking about spousal support, but not child support. Child support is supposed to go to the childs needs and if the child lives with one person primarily that person is paying for the majority of those expences. Spousal support is so that the person making less money would be able to live almost the same as if they were not divorced.

I think the answer to you question though is that it's simply discrimination and double standards.

My guess on why women get more child support when they have custody of the children then fathers do when they have custody is because in most states the support amount is determined by how much the each parent makes and even though its not right in most cases fathers make more money then the mothers do therefore they would get less child support.

Most men make much mor e money than women. also usually when a man gets custory it's because the woman is declared an unfit mom which cuts her lose form the children and the man would rather have it that way.

A woman has a much higher chace of getting custody than a mother, but someti9mes due to her job or such she relingueshes custody for the benefit of the children and the father refuse support.

But the real answer to your question there are so many more moms with custory of children than men which is why there are more women getting support than men.

Because statistically men make more money than women and may not bother to ask for the money. There are also plenty more women who have custody then men. Certain groups of women have a reputation for not knowing who the 'baby daddy' is but, if you look outside of such stereotypes perhaps you would find that many women don't receive child support and don't care but, that would be something you'd have to look into with research that I'm not willing to do at this moment.

I don't get child support from my ex for our two kids, since he was the stay at home dad the whole time we were married, I actually paid alimony for a while, and now I make less and stopped paying alimony but still can't get support since he's not working. So don't be so ignorant, they base support off the income of both parents, along with the percentage of time each has the children, not the sex of the parent at all. Just works out that more single mothers tend to have a rougher time finding decent paying jobs than single dads.

Most of the answers here are right, men do make more money, I myself pay 800$ a month CS IF the situation was reversed she would have to pay 240$ a month in support, the way they figure it is they combined both incomes to see who brings in what, per say if you brought in 75% of the family's income and it cost 1000$ a month to support a child you have to pay 750$ a month, The child support system is a joke by far on BOTH ends, like i said i pay 800$ a month and bring home about 700$ a month for my survival, yet my ex is remarried and their income is around 80,000$ a year..sounds fun huh?

Because family law courts are strongly slanted in favor of women. There is no equality there. It's the same reason courts award custody primarily to women, even if they're the vastly poorer parent, simply because "a child belongs with its mother."

You're quite right. There are two reasons for this.

1. Statistics indicate that men generally make a great deal more money than women, and courts are loath to grant the man relief who earns substantially more than his ex-wife.

2. Child support isn't automatic; it must be asked for in the settlement decree. Many men do not feel comfortable asking for it as they feel it makes them less of a man if their ex-wives are supporting them financially.

Because it is a proven fact that men earn way more than women. Even if they do the same job at the same company, men get paid ALOT more. They can afford to live comfortably, where woman struggle to make ends meet and having kids and a house note or rent just make it even harder to make it.

most moms have custody and have to go through court to eventually get support , the dads dont do that maybe because the women dont make enough $ to be worth it
